Also posted this in gen. diesel topics…

Gals at work giving me heck about idling too close to the building…They say my sweet ol' truck smells bad! I can't take it. Does anyone know how diesel exhaust compares to gas exhaust in terms of toxicity to humans? I know CO is oderless, colorless and tasteless. But gas exhaust tends to be heavier in carbon dioxide. Does that smell? Help me out here…

I do not have any specifics but the gases in a gaser will kill ya in short order , the diesel would take a lot longer maybe 3-5 times under all the same conditions , but the stink is what they can tell , the chemistry is what they cann't tell , you could do a test with the same displacement gaser and 2 conarys , like they used to do inthe mines , but then you'ld be in bigger trouble with the Gals.
So do it at home and tells us how long it takes for the birds to fall over.

Diesel is not as harmful, but I don't have any specs on the subject. My nephew, who I am close to, is an environmental attorney with EPA is my source of information on the subject.

Don't kill any birds, then you will get in lots of trouble with bird lovers. Hopefully someone who has the specs on the subject will come through.

I'll read later , but I did look at the graphs and didn't see a side by side gas/diesel , hopfully it will be in the text , this is what I like someone almost always can come up with the goolies.

RustyJC: here's a quote from the introduction: "…few data allow the health risks from diesel emissions to be directly compared to risks from engines burning gasoline and other fuels. " I'll also have to read more later.

And that was my point - there's no simple answer to the question. As I was reading the document, my eyes crossed about the middle of the 2nd page of text - and I'm an engineer!

Tell those office girls that if they don't like the smell then they can buy you a heavy dose of fuel conditioner(any brand), seems to help the smell alot. If they're not satisfied then tell them to choke on it or quit.
