I was told we will sell them for less than the 2k I expected.
I don't see that on your site, is there special pricing somewhere else?

Spool is quicker than a Jammer.
I don't know about the Jammer but have been looking at twins to keep bottom end snap plus cool the upper end. Do you or anyone else know how the Jammer spools compared to a BD Super B, HX35 or 40?

It is listed on the orderform page as a DD11054 for the 3G kit.

The Jammer spooled quicker than a 40, maybe like a 35/40-14. This is even quicker. :D

I did do some research on the Jammer and it was quoted as spooling just a tad slower than an HX35, yet worked real well with stock power.

I am still running the stock charger with auto trans and am concerned a single will kill my bottom end with the boxes off.

Maybe this new BB would give the same bottom end as twins using a 35/14 as the top charger??

Out of curiusity. . if you were to give the wheel a spin with your finger, does it noticeably roll with less resistance?

I put a Jammer on my truck when it was still stock, and didn't notice any additional lag. It actually felt a little quicker on spool-up, but I won't swear to that (never did any specific tests, and I have to account for new-parts-syndrome possibly skewing my perception). It was definately not a hinderance to the truck at stock power.

If the new turbo has better spool-up characteristics than the Jammer, it won't be any problem to drop it in a stock-fueled truck.

Hey Tom,

Thats really good news and since the compressor is efficient to ~52psi I have trouble wondering what would be so good about twins in a 400-500 hp application unless EGT's would be so much lower when towing.

I see you have twins- what do you have on the top charger and how is your spool compared to when you put a Jammer on if you remember? I realize there probably has been a host of other mods since then.

I guess since its not waste gated one would just control boost with fueling to protect the HG.

Keith- What about drive pressure/boost ratio with this new BB?

I have been asking myself the same question. I'm guessing EGT's will still be better with twins but how much better?

Personally I like the simplicity of a single but I don't like one or the other of the trade-offs that one has to contend with when going to a larger single charger. Maybe this new turbo is the best of both worlds?

Same here, I am prepared to drop the bucks on twins to maintain good spool but if this one spools as advertised and keeps EGT's in check towing I am interested.

Matt,

I went with twins before this turbo came on the scene. My top charger is an HX-40. With an EZ on level 2, spool-up is a little laggier than when I had the Jammer on, but not much. When it pulls, though, it pulls MUCH harder than it did with the Jammer on.

I will say that if this new turbo spools quicker than the Jammer, then a 500HP truck would probably beat me off the line. If this turbo were available back at the beginning of this year, I probably would have went with it (the twins just look and sound so GOOD, though :))

Bummer Tom. The new turbo does rock. Waiting for Fred to report his findings. My truck rips the tires in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and even 5th on the highway last week. A lot more responsive and comes on way harder than the other turbos.

You are still limited though by the structural limit of the aluminum wheel of roughly 1900 ft/s.

true... but i believe that could be overcome by going to titanium. . i know the newer egr equipped vgt detroit 60 series engines have a titanium compressor wheel on their vgt charger... it is lighter and stronger than the aluminum, so maybe that would let you spin it faster before it grenades ????

FYI, we are already out of stock of these things. All the downpipes for both the 2G and 3G trucks are gone. We have more turbos but not enough downpipes for them yet.

Sorry guys, but we should have more soon.

Titanium wheels aren't usually any lighter, but they are stronger. Intermediate in strength is CNC machined forged aluminum, costly as it takes a whole day to make one. Titanium requires an iron or steel compressor housing for safety as it could cut right through an aluminum compressor housing. It will also cut through your wallet

There are several trade-offs--weght and strength vs. lightness for faster spool up. Air flow vs. spool up. (A reason DD went to the ball bearing turbo--to gain strength and not lose spool up). Cost jumps in there real quickly if you try to design an "ideal" turbo. We will hear a lot about turbo options at May Madness, and I expect we will find that there is no single answer, depending on what you want to do and what you are willing to spend (and whether you want to spend once, or just buy some time with an "expendable" turbo. )

I just talked to Swanson. The results are in and he installed it on Sunday. Very nice looking turbo, spools faster than the Jammer that is on my truck. EGT's are 1350* with Quad Race and DDII's flat footed on the top end. Spooling is quick, 1600 rpm's and up. Max boost was only 32 psi. TST will go on in the next couple of days and he will give you an update.

Greg

daytripper63 and Tomeygun, sorry to keep you guys in suspense so long. Greg, thanks for posting the info.

I wasn't feeling so great last night and today, so it delayed my posting of results.

If I am up to it, I'll put the TST on tonight and get some results with it. I have one with the twins program.

Driving around town, spool-up is excellent. Like Greg said, by 1600, it's spooling, and by 1750, I'm around 20psi on boost and going up. Smoke is minimal, and outside temps were around 86-88 and dry(it's Arizona, what'd ya expect).

My impressions, I like the drivability of this turbo as a single. And it sure does shine.

I have some pictures, I'll get uploaded in a few minutes.

Bill, I think you're going to like this turbo!
