How were you intending the user to connect the optional bluetooth? Is it a USB dongle?

Jeepmullet, yes the Bluetooth is a USB dongle. We are thinking that some users are not going to want to invest in a expensive network card when they might already have a Bluetooth cell phone with EDGE / GPRS / EVDO or whatever function already native to their phone.

Remember that a Bluetooth dongle can be used for many different functions such as: OBDII, keyboard, mouse, GPS... ... ... and so on. This is the biggest reason why we have designed the DieselPuter to have the 2 PCI slots, so the user can add a 2 or 3 or even a 4 port USB PCI, or even use the PCI slots for whatever they want.

Good deal, I have one of those phones with bluetooth and ED-VO capabilities. Having 2 PCI card slots makes this product very attractive :)

Can you link me to an OBDII bluetooth product?

Having the phone already and using it for Internet connection is a nice built in feature, but I use my phone and Internet in my truck a great deal and it ties up your phone line. I use a separate data only SIM for my GC 89 card, just my preference. Take a look at these sites, I am sure there are more out there, but these are the ones I am familiar with.

Hi guys! I'm pleased to announce that I have posted the new DieselPuter.com website. Over the next coming weeks we will be adding pictures and more detailed information about the DieselPuter and the monitors we offer.

Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions.

I notice that you don't have an option for no GPS option. As a side note, how much just for the monitor mount? That I have a real need for as TTMT knows. the raesons I ask are two fold... I already own 2 GPS units I just plug into my laptop, and I already have a onboard DVD player.

We have spent years developing this system for the general public as a complete and integrated laptop replacement for their in-vehicle computing needs. We offer certain software and hardware combinations because we know they work together. Remember this is a purpose built computer, not a made-over laptop. We can deduct the GPS if you would like for a $75 reduction in price. I am sorry, but we do not offer our mounting stand separately, only as an add-on to the DieselPuter for those wishing to use the 10. 4” screen. Our goal for the DieselPuter from the beginning is to be an all-inclusive mobile computing solution for a variety of applications in the mobile environment.

Remember the DieselPuter replaces many separate and expensive components:

On-board DVD player, the DieselPuter has it……. .

We even offer a flip down touch screen….

CD Player…………

MP3 Player………. .

Hand held GPS……….

Your big and clunky lap top………. .

Hand held OBDII……….

Internet connectively via laptop…………we even offer a PCI WiFi card standard!!!

The DieselPuter does all this at 1/3 of the price, and it does in thru a touch screen interface, no remotes, mice, or keyboards needed. It is truly a “point 2 click” system. It takes up the same space as a very small DVD player safely tucked away under your seat away from prying eyes. With the 7” in-dash screen we offer as an upgrade NO ONE will ever know at a glance what it is or what it is capable of………. .

Hey Diesel PUTER

I mean no respect here your web page is a little dark and hard to read might lighten it up a bit I looked at your site from both the home and the notebook computer and took a lot of effort and yes my eyesight is fine.

It's funny you mention it, we have been going back on forth on it. So much of what you see in a web site depends on your screen settings, we tried to get that color and shade so the most amount of people would have a good view, but I do aggree that the text should be a little lighter. But it is easliey fixed while on the road.

And no disrespect taken, in fact thank you for your comment. It only makes us better... .....

I just look at the pictures and they are really dark, we can fix that and take some new shots over the weekend, so take a look on Sunday or Monday and let me know what ya think!!

Is DieselPuter affiliated with Opus Solutions?

Affiliated, no. We do use a case and power supply designed and supplied by Opus, and if you know anything about that industry, you know they are without a doubt the Rolls-Royce in both design and function.

NPS: We are currently under devlopment for a Gas compatable version, however we are finding issues with the gas motor/ DieselPuter combination. Given the lower compression and extra electrical systems our DieselPuter has been giving us 1693 error codes while installed in a gas powered vehicle. We are endevoring to solve this issue as soon as possible to allow our petrol powered brethern to enjoy the beneifits of the DieselPuter.

See! Computer geeks are funny too.

What OBDII parameters can you monitor on a 1998 12V cummins? Particularly, is there a MAP sensor, and can the OBDII software read and log the signal? Would it be possible to log other data inputs, such as a pyrometer with the dieselputer?

Mark

Mark, Our OBDII Software will do data logging and related functions. However any additional parameters like a pyometer that was not originally integrated into the ECM/PCM will not be supported by any OBDII, because that data is not being integrated into the OBD system.

Also, keep in mind that diesel engines register far fewer OBD data streams. For instanace, O2 sensors, timing, spark advance, etc, do not show up in the OBD data stream because they do not exist on diesel trucks. Outside of trouble codes the real time data logging and displays are somewhat limited on a diesel.

Our parameters that are displayed in our 2001 CTD are, VSS, RPM, ECT, MAP, IAT, and Load %. However there are a couple of more sensers available for display. All parameters are available for logging and charts.

Hey - call Marco. Maybe he can reprogram your ECM with a Smarty to ignore the 1693 codes. :-laf

There's no need to spend $2250... read this thread. Their system runs the same exact OBD-II software I'm running. My system cost me less than $500 to assemble including monitor and OBD-II software/cabling from Alex Peper, and I have every bit as much functionality as they do.

They're using Lilliput or TView standard 7" and 10. 4" LCD monitors. Also Opus power supplies - I don't see anything very special about them (although they've probably been building mobile power supplies longer than anyone).

Check out www.mp3car.com and you can buy these components yourself. Their case does sound nice, and I don't think it's available elsewhere.

The Dieselputer site repeatedly suggests their components are "heavy duty". I don't consider Opus power supplies or Lilliput/TView monitors particularly ruggedized. I've had my system running for almost 3 years now without a single failed component.

My point is that I don't see $2250 worth of product here. The exact same system (sans custom case) can be built for under $1000. I'm not saying my system is better, because it's not. What my system is, is equal to Dieselputer at less than half the cost.

Ryan, thanks adding your viewpoint, however, the price point of $500, is completely unrealistic. The case and software alone already surpasses the $500 price point. We do include common software packages that are available on the market for anyone to purchase independently and install on a laptop if they so chose. These are not groundbreaking innovations. What we have done is combine these fragmented applications and combine them into a slick, easy to install, easy to use, familiar operating system platform. You could absolutely visit mp3car and roll your own system for a slight discount, however we don't believe everyone has that set of skills. Our customers are buy it, install it truck owners, not the DIY crowd.

Our system is completely ruggedized and built for the high vibration environment. You failed to mention the LCD stand. The stands we include with our systems are built like truck frames. The case alone has vibration insulation and a high quality formed aluminum case. Trust me, this thing does take a beating, my business partner is a full time auto repossessor and his machine is in a 18 hour a day tow truck. That is about as tough as you can get.

The Opus power supplies are the best on the market, I have done my research and have personally owned an Opus for 3+ years now. Actually, I was on the waiting list for one the first batches that came from overseas. In my professional opinion as a 23+ year career as a technical advisor, these components are the absolute best. We could bring the total cost of the system down by using lower cost components and reusing outdated hardware to build our systems. With that philosophy behind the business, we would not be a successful OEM mobile computer manufacturer.

As a DIY, roll-your-own, type of person, I can certainly understand why you would not see the value of our complete turn-key system. I personally cannot understand why a truck owner would pay someone to change their own oil, however the are a vast majority of people in this world who do exactly that. They may not have the skills, time, experience, or facilities to accomplish a task that we as TDR members take for granted.

As a fellow geek, I can appreciate the tenacity of your innovation as described in this thread:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86431&page=1&pp=15

However anyone can go to, www.atacom.com and build their own home PC, but the vast majority of people purchase pre-built systems from companies like Dell. Our goal is to become the Dell of the mobile computer market and we fully realize that DIYers will never purchase our product.
