I was at the emissions place today and asked the manger if they were up grading and he said "yep start checking diesels the first of April. " I then I ask what are you checking for and he said he was not sure. Another $10 to renew your tags.

LMAO! I wanna see 'em check mine through the stacks... ... ewwhhh if they scratch one #@$%! Man I will probably have to slide the plate all the way back and reinstall my rackstop to make standards..... if they set some!

Up here in CT they've been testing Diesels for a while (under 10K GVW). Recently in order to help speed up the check they decided to only check cars older than 4 yrs (I think it's 4 but I may be wrong on the exact number). HOWEVER, they still collect the money for those years you don't have to go! Soooo, your now having to pay not to go too... Some racket!

Hey, you could always move out here to Weakley county. We don't have inspections here. Of course we also don't have a lot of jobs either, so you would probably have to commute to Nashville. It's only about 150 miles.

I recently had to test my truck, what a joke.

I left it the way it is, they said electronic mod's are no longer allowed. They let it go since you can turn the comp off, but warned me not to use it on public roads :-laf .

Here, they test on a dyno, or what pretends to be a dyno. One strap from my reciever to the ground is all they used, truck made more tire smoke than anything when they applied the load to it. Luckily, the guy just backed off the throttle to keep the tires from spinning and by doing that it didn't smoke much out the pipe. Passed with flying colors  . $65 down the drain, along with another $500 for a new sticker.

The good news is, at the moment the plan is to end all emissions by 2007. There is no plan for a new emission test as of now. However, Larimer county alone did $6 million in emmission tests last year, so of course all the test locations are crying about losing the requirement to register.

I had to get Junior tested when I moved to NM. Took it to the test station, ran it in neutral, revved to 2000 and held it. The inspector took a quick look at the tailpipe, and wrote out the permanent exemption for diesels. I think even Sickly would have passed that test :) I got a 2 year plate for well under half the one-year cost in NV, and then got permanent plates for the two trailers. Total with new titles was less than one year of plates for just Junior. Of course, NM has some other onerous taxes so I guess it evens out more or less.

The good news is ...

Oh my god ... 565$ for an inspection?

we get upset here when we pay 15$

and then all they do is hand you a sticker ... quoting the BP station owner from a week ago

"Don't even think of bringing that stinkin' thing in here... when are you gonna get the stacks on !! ... heres the scraper and a sticker ... "

$500 for the registration sticker, I had to get the emission test before I could renew my registration. It's a big scam all the way around. I've been paying more than $500 a year for the priveledge to destroy my truck on our pot hole ladden streets.
