New York

New York Newsday had an article on that very same topic. It seems we lead the nation in "Diesel Deaths", followed closely by California. I'm going to trade in my '92 CTD for a Honda Hybrid tomorrow! On second thought, maybe I won't.

Maybe some of these People need to travel to Turkey in the winter!

The more I read this kind of stuff, the more I wonder if there isn't some sort of push from environmental activists to reduce the new found popularity of diesels. First the price of fuel goes through the roof, and now the ever increasing negative publicity...

Or maybe I'm just a bit nuts. Oo.

Or maybe the diesel exhaust has gone to my brain.

Or maybe both. :-laf

Last time I check when people wanted to kill themselves the got in a closed room and turned on their car... their GAS POWERED car. Not their diesel powered pickup or semi or school bus!! Why don't people use their brains when they come up with this crap.

Tree Huggers

It's the tree hugging liberal hippies. They won't be happy until we're back to horse and carriage. Even then they'll probably complain about the manure!

I guess one good thing about this report is that it acknowledges that diesel *can* be "cleand up".

However, to me, this report implies that diesels (old or otherwise) are responsible for most if not all of the PM2. 5 inventory. The Diesel Technology Forum issued a response referencing EPA data which shows that diesel - stationary and mobile - are responsible for only about 4% of the total PM2. 5 inventory (http://www.dieselforum.org/statements/feb_22_2005.html ). The North Front Range Air Quality Study showed that gasoline vehicles produce about 3 times as much ambient fine PM (PM2. 5) than diesel vehicles.

hmmmm, its amazing everything kills everything, maybe the ocean needs to suck up DC and clean up the trash and the rats literally. My truck doesn't smoke due to my being conservative with funds, could it smoke oh yeah but i prefer her stock.

As far as what was seen on TV, im in the business of believe only half of what i see and none of what i hear. Besides they need something to keep pples interest, if like me most pple are tired of the war coverage and would rather have our guys here where there needed most, not in some country where only the politicians and money grubbers have interest, maybe we should send the house and senate over there with guns and let them have at it, the iraqi's would be doing us all a favor...

I dont want to come off as a person that doesnt care about others but why in gods name would someone want to live right on top of a main road where traffic is 24hrs a day most of it at high speed sometimes with stop lights (the lights must be for extra numbers in there figures) oh yeah dont forget them fences made with telephone poles to keep the noise down. Guess they dont want to die hard of hearing. A little common sense would go along way in where people build and choose to contribute to those numbers and where their govt decide to build new roads not taking into consideration, their health never mind their property value oh thats right usually their property value is real high because it is close to where they work or even better yet mass. transit you know them damn diesel busses enough said

I could never live in the city or near a highway! if you do I feel sorry for ya!! there is nothing better than walking out and seeing woods/fields and only 3 other neighbors on your road!

Oh great now our insurance will go up since we are driving "killer engines" :-laf

IMO some people need to GET A LIFE and GET A JOB and quit being so uptight! judus cant you find something better to put that effort into?!?!?!?

I eat eggs, I eat Bacon, I eat all the stuff they say will kill me! I smoke, I drink, I try not to think, of all the damn things out there, that the health Nazi's say can kill me. I've lived fast, I've lived slow... Screw them I'll go when I go! :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :D Oo.

And then from our "General Diesel" topic we have:

"Great Smoke Stories! ( 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page )"

Where we brag about all the times we 'smoked' someone. Hmmmmmm

Like Vaughn, I try to keep my smoke to the very minimum. And like most here, I offend enough people with just the engine noise without even trying.

My old shop teacher used to say "There's three kinds of liars... there's liars, d**n liars and statistics. " I believe the latter one combined with media coverage causes more damage than all the diesel smoke we can ever generate. Charlie.

I think some of the concerns in the study may be valid, but I think a lot of their issues will lessen/go away next year when Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel is introduced. At that point diesel emissions will be a lot cleaner and better for those with respiratory ailments.
