Changing my diff fluid for the first time and I added almost 3 quarts to the front and it is seeping out of the hole... ... ... ... is this too much or is this the proper level.

I was pretty sure someone said 3 in front and 4 rear and I dont want to over fill.

Thanks

JIM

I'll let someone more knowledgeable than myself give a definitive answer, but I believe it is supposed to be a 1/2" below the fill hole. When changing my rear diff fluid I used the "one knuckle" text by inserting my index finger through the hole to the first knuckle then lowering the tip of my finger into the fluid. I was told the fluid should just barely touch the tip of your finger.

For what it's worth...

My owner's manual says 1/4 inch below the hole to up to the hole in the rear and something similar in the front. Fill it up till is runs out the hole, and you should be fine.

Also, I always take a floor jack and jack up one side of the axle to get fluid to run out into the axle tube and then do the other side (with the fill hole plug in). Then fill it up till it comes out the hole.

I like the fluid at the fill hole. When checking the level, I use the first knuckle of my little (pinky?) finger - works out to 3/4 inch.
