How much difference is there between a 12v. block and say a 01 24v block
can a 12v from say 89 or 90 truck be used to replace a 01 53 block just
a thought.

Complete engine? Something you have sitting around?
53 block cracked or just looking for a project?
THe easiest solution would be to find another 24 valve engine. Not that what your asking can't be done but it would require a lot of work to be right, and you will be going back wards quite a bit in horsepower and torque. You would have to have a complete engine to do the swap, fuel system and all. Engine and fuelsystem parts are not interchangeable.

I know of a 90 engine all that is left is short block and head I was wondering if the block only
was the same . If you can use all the exterior off the 24v and maybe crank and pistons also
I have a 01 53 block at this point has no crack but if the 90 block is the same I can get for a
good price and if I do have a problem in the future I am not afraid of some work to put it together
it would be a good learning experience I have built many gas motors but not a diesel.

Don't use a 90 block or any block from before late 97 as they wont have the "extra holes" for your sensors, like the crank position sonsor for example. You want a STORM block, easily identified by the 2 turbo drain holes in it. Straight Thread O Ring Metric. David
