Thinking of buying the wife a new Mega Cab. She doesn't need or really want a diesel, just lots of room. from what I can tell, the 1500 and 2500 Mega Cab's are pretty identical aside form the diesel option and maybe some axle sizes? The price savings of the 1500 is appealing. So, what are the differences?

I know the 1500 mega has a solid front axle and 8 lug rims unlike all other 1500's front axle is the same as the 2500/3500. Not sure on the rear. It may have the 10. 5 instead of the 11. 5

If I remember correctly, there was a pretty in depth article on the Mega Cab models in the TDR magazine, when they first came out, that described many of the differences between models. It would have been the fall of '05 or somewhere in there. Sorry, I can't remember the issue # off hand.

The 1500 has a 10. 5 rear axle and is not avaialble with the cummins

my friend has an 06 1500 and his rear has been replaced. the cummins engine was not avaialble as an option for him. as for other differences I am not sure

he is trading in his 06 MC 1500 hemi truck and getting a Diesel soon

I think that the 1500 trucks have a completely different frame and suspension than the 2500/3500 Heavy Duty trucks. I think it is more geared for a comfortable ride and softer smoother suspension for road driving instead of the stiffer ride from the bigger leaf pack in the Heavy Duty trucks. Sounds like a 1500 Mega would be perfect for your wife if it is just for driving around town unloaded. And it may qualify for the lifetime warranty.

They are the same frame.

BTW, you'd get better millage with an H2 then the 1500 mega. If you plan on keeping it a long time, might wanna re-consider the motor option.

The H2 is a heavy truck, I doubt it gets better mileage than a Megacab 1500, oh yeah and you can pick up a Megacab with a Hemi for about 30K, the H2 probably closer to 55k, you can buy alot of gas for 25 grand.

But you look pimp in the H2 :)

Mega 4x4 curb is 6500

H2 curb is 6400

hmmm, wow, ok, I'm shocked hte H2 was that heavy, I though it was closer to 5500.

Exactly my point, the H2 weighs as much as a Megacab if not more, has less horsepower and torque, and is shaped like a wall. They are pretty safe, I was a passenger in my buddies when an old man in a Mercedes ran a red and slammed into us, the Benz was nearly totalled, the H2 had just cosmetic stuff, some broken plastic, but we drove away unharmed, the Benz was on a flatbed and the driver was in an ambulance.
