Difference Between 2003 and 2nd Gen Maintenance

I am thinking about trading in my 1996 gasser for a used 3500. I currently have 2001 6 spd HO 2500 that I am keeping. So I need to know the differences between maintanence of the 2003 versus what I already do myself for the 2001. I know that the oil filters are different, the fuel filters are the same. The fluids can be all the same, oil, NV5600 is the same, transfer case can be the same, right? Differentials are the same.



So anyone out there had a 2nd gen and now has a 3rd gen and can comment on the economies of scale that I can have between the 2 trucks. Since I need to convince my wife that having 2 diesels would be cheaper than 1 diesel and another gasser



And yes I know the new 04 monsters are coming out soon and I should wait, but I would cry myself to sleep every night if I had to pay over 40k for a new truck. :{

Oil filter can be the same. The '03 one just has dents in the can for use of a wrench on the bottom. If you want to pay extra, use the '03 filter on both, if you want the cheaper route, use the '01 filters. I use the old ones as I had a wrench that would reach OK anyway.

Same oil filter, that is great! I buy them by the case from my cummins dealer.

I was wondering what DC recommends in the rear diff for heaving towing. On the 2nd gens they specify 75W140 Synthetic. Is it the same for the Americal Axles?

I think the change intervals have increased on most fluids, however the rear axle interval has decreased. If you have limited slip you no longer need the friction modifier additive. Of course the new one will need to be washed more often.

75W-90 GL-5 synthetic on the G3's.
