A bit confused, my front axle is rated for 4850 lbs. and the rear at 6084 lbs. according to the door jam sticker, total 10,934. the registration shows 8,800 lbs. So is it legal for 10 or 8,000 or a 3/4 or a 1 ton?

The weight rating of the tires is the only thing that might be "legal". The other numbers are manufacture's numbers, for warranty and such. SNOKING

Whats the difference between the 2 ( single rear wheels)? Someone told me that the 1 tons have overload springs in the rear, but my 2500 does too.

The difference between a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton is 1/4 ton.

No offense, I just couldn't resist that.

Oo. This is very interesting, I have a 2500/ 2001 / 6 spd. manual with the camper and tow package and sway bar on it, this is the way I ordered it. There must be some truth to being the same as a 3500 , only because I often haul 2000# at a time without the rear showing . The only time it showed is when I drove home with 3000# in the bed .

I think from what everyone is saying here, the 3rd gens use the same spring, its just the 1tons have the overload leaves. The 2nd gens use different springs, but if you got the camper package, that added overload leaves to the rear, but you still had 3/4ton springs. Maybe the overload leaves are what kept yours sitting level with that kinda weight in the back. And just to let ya's know, I lowered my tire pressures to 60psi in front and 50psi in back and it made a huge difference in ride. Now its in desperate need of new shocks
