They didn't only come out with the 600 series to compete with the other manufacturers, they came out with them to meet emissions standards, and to be able to sell in all 50 states, unlike the 555's.
I'm glad to say I have a 555, some of the very very common 600 problems I've read about are injector issues, white smoke at startup, poor mpg, and also BLACK OIL. The 555's are so clean, that after 5k miles you can still see clear thru the oil on the dipstick. I've read the 600's blacken the oil very quickly. Now I do oil analysis regularly and know black doesn't necessarily mean bad, but there's something to be said for the 600's dirtying the oil a lot faster. I just don't think all of the extra emissions crap and injection event are worth the measly power gains, if any. That being said, good luck finding a 555. To some of the 600's defense, I think a lot of the 600 owners that complain about poor mpg and white smoke haven't gotten or heard about the reflash.
