Does any one know of any difference made from a 2005 to a 2005. 5 model? Also, how can you tell if it is a 2005. 5? What build date would start the 05. 5 models?

We have a 2005 but not for sure if its a 05. 5. Trying to find out for modications issues. I was told that no one has anything for a 2005. 5 model because the program was different on them.

I do know the truck is a 325/610 engine.

Thanks

Brandon

Thats what I thought too. I was told they changed the computer software. I hope they didn't, just trying to get things straight. The truck was purchased August 2005.

The only major change I know of for 2005 was the G56. 1/2 year model changes are not reflected in the VIN or model year of the truck. My 2004. 5 is a 2004 model year as far as registration and insurance is concerned.

I believe half way through the 05 model year they also went back to the metal intercoolers. They started with the plastic end caps at the begininging of the model year. I have a plastic one and it was manufactured in Jan 05. Dang DC Engineers #@$%!

I think the half year trucks are due to changes in EPA for Diesels and they always go into effect on trucks made starting in Jan. 2004 had a change hence the 4. 5 325 600. But it is still considered an 04 to the dmv and my insurance man.

Thanks guys.

I believe the reference I got about the software change was incorrect. This was a concern because I was inquiring about a Bullydog Downloader and wanted to make sure I got the correct program

I called TST and they said their box goes all the way up to a 2006, but they didn't have wiring harnesses for a 2006 in stock.

I almost positive the truck has a G56 because it is geared LOW.

Good news is the truck has the metal intercooler caps. That was the first thing I checked.

Just wanted to cover all my bases before I started adding the power.

Thanks again.

Hey Brandon,

This is a little off topic, but I've gotta ask:

My truck was born 02/05, has the G56 (reverse is to the left and down), but has plastic caps on the intercooler. I'm curious about the inconsistency between our trucks. I assume all of our trucks are built in, or at least partially built, in Mexico. Does that jive with yours?

Michael,

I not for sure when my truck was built, my dad is the one who drives it, but I know they switched backed to the metal intercoolers because the plastic ones where blowing off at stock power, supposedly stock. A Dodge/Cummins master mechanic told me this.

My reverse is to the all the way left and down to verify the G56.

I'm not for sure when they switched back, but I do have the metal ones and even compared it to my 04'.

I'm almost positive the truck was built in Mexico, haven't looked at the sticker to be for sure.

I believe you can get aftermarket replacement caps to go in place of the plastic ones.

I remember reading about someone else getting a 05' and it had the metal caps instead of plastic. I guess DC saw they were having to replace these caps alot and decided to go back to the metal ones.

Brandon

Brandon,

I now see that you weren't the one who said your build date was 01/05. It was JCrockett. I thought I got screwed because mine had the plastic caps, yours had the metal caps, and mine was built after yours. Anyway, I may still be screwed regardless!

Thanks for the response. And good luck with your BOMBing.

Haven't heard that one, got anymore info on that?

I actually don't have any info but when the 05's first came out I remember reading about the concern of the plastic caps and thought there was an alternative for them. I may be mistaking that with a whole intercooler replacement. Sorry if that was misleading.

I do know if you blow the plastic intercooler, the dealer will replace it with a metal one.

I just bought my 05 a few weeks ago and it's likely a late production unit. I think the engine build date was May 05. It has metal end caps on the IC.
