I was looking at the RAM site the other day and noticed the 14 2500 has a higher towing capacity then the 2013. The engines and trans are the same. I thought that leaf spring suspension would yield better ratings.

Does coils in the rear make for better towing etc? Or is this just another numbers game by stretching the bunjee cord a little farther to beat the competition?

Personally I' d say that leafs are better for towing but have no experience with a coiled truck. I would think this is just the numbers game like you suggested in keeping up with and ahead of the competition.

I thought the 2013 2500 still had the old style frame and didn't get the new frame until the 2014 model year. That could easily account for the increased rating.

Exactly, the 2013 2500 has the same 35K psi frame as 03-12 and the 14+ 2500's have the 50K psi frame the 13+ 3500's got...

But ssshhh, there are some people that think they got the 50K psi frame with their '13 2500.

The ratings only went up 300-400 lbs. Not a great deal. 2013 is 17400lbs, 2014 is 17800ish lbs.depending on model.

I musta got one of those 50K psi frames in 13' ;)...lol

Yeah, I didn't read the memo and thought I was getting the stronger frame. Even when I ordered my gooseneck hitch, they sent me the one for 2014 2500. I had to send it back and tell them I got the old frame.
