Can someone explain difference between eth and etc internally? What about fuel pump? turbo? Can parts be exchanged between the two? Thanks.

The ETH has higher compression due to the pistons, the injection pump is also different, I'm not sure what the differences are between the injection pumps.

The ETH's are rated at 245 HP at the flywheel. I have seen many dyno at 235 to 255 HP at the rear wheels totally stock.

The ETC's are rated at 235 HP at the flywheel. Most of them dyno somewhere around 180 to 205 HP.

Turbos are the same as long as you have a stick transmission, automatics have a different turbo. Parts are interchangeable.

Some of the other TDR members can probable give you more information.

"The ETH engine has a different injection pump, that has much steeper cam lobes on the injection cam and smaller plungers. This results in a shorter duration to inject the fuel. "

Thanks for reply. Just trying to decide whether to buy a eth or a etc because i dont really want to shiftimg. But i do plan on bombing. Any commets?:)

The ETC will produce more HP through BOMBing because of the flexibility of the injection pump.

If you are planning on going with the automatic trans, plan on bombing it too! Get ahold of Bill Kondalay at DTT, he'll fix that auto up for you!

big bob

i was going to talk to you about our trucks at the dyno day in spokane.

your truck an etc, from my head it dyno'd 452? with your comp,bd3's,hx-40,physcotty air,4", and upgraded fuel system.

my truck an eth, it made 426, with dd2's, edge comp, hx-40 and 4".

i'm not picking on your truck bob i'm just trying to see the difference in the 2 trucks. you have 3's and i have 2's so that should give you around 20 more hp. you also had an upgraded fuel system and a physcotty air, not sure if they really give a hp gain.

now we didn't dyno our trucks together when they were brand new so we don't have a baseline. and these are just 2 trucks. but this is the only time i've seen an etc and an eth bombed so close to each other and dyno within 10 minutes of each other.

so this might be some food for thought, by a rough guestamation of hp there is a 6hp difference. that's pretty stinkin close!!

Cuminntstrkn,

You are right, with my Comp I dynoed 453 HP and with Bill Kondalay's I dynoed 460 hp. DD III's would put us very close. One thing about your ETH is it dynoed more stock (255 hp) than any ETH I have ever heard of.

I don't know if there is much difference between Diesel Dynamics (yours)and Bully Dog (mine) injectors. It would be nice to see a ETH and ETC set up exactly the same for a comparison.

Hey Jim, When are you going to DDIII's, DDIV's or Super Mental?

I'm done, I don't think I will be going for any more HP. Infact this weekend, I taking off the HX40 and putting my HX35 that Piers modified back on. Much better for towing. I'm tried of not spooling up to 1700 rpm's. Will be looking for a travel trailer soon.

BIG BOB

i'm leaning towards the bd 5's, i mean if your going to do it, you might as well do it all out. the should be worth another 80-100rwhp :D my eth does run pretty good but i was just comparing our two trucks for those who cared.

What can you change in the injection pump on the etc? Can you make the same adjustment on the eth? Why didnt DC just offer the same motor for stick and auto? I know the etc is available with both. Thanks for your time. :)

Big Bob,

Why don't you hold off swapping out the HX40 until you try the BHAF. GREATLY improved my spool up, increased my mileage & lowered EGT.

Forrest,

I really don't think the BHAF has a lot over the psychotty. I really don't think it will get my spool-up from 1700 rpm down to 1400 rpm. I going to get a travel trailer and I need to have boost and power at those lower rpm's.

Thanks for your concern. I'm going to keep the HX40 until I'm sure there is no problems with Piers turbo.
