Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) difference in exhaust from 96 to 04

i have a 4" straight pipe single on my 96 and a stock exhaust on my 04. 5, i want to put the straight pipe from the 96 on the 04 and go to a 5" dual system on the 96, i thinking i will just buy a 5" dual system for the 04. 5 and use everything but the down pipe on 96 and just get a reducer so it hooks up to the 96 downpipe, and then put the 96 exhaust with the 04. 5 down pipe on the 04. 5 with a reducer so it all hooks up, so i guess all i really need to know is if there is any difference in the exhaust on an 96 and an 04 after the down pipe
