Hey all,

A buddy of mine is considering buying an 05 2500 diesel and he was ?ing whether the MPG issue has been fixed and what other plus and/or minus the 05's have. Also anyone know what exactly the 06 will have better or worse than whats out now other than the mega cab.

Thanks,

Russ

As far as I know;

- a reflash was available for '04. 5's with mileage complaints, I would imagine that the updated software is standard on any '05.

- biggest differences are: all '05's built now with a six speed have the G56 instead of the NV5600. Too early to tell if this is good or bad; Sunroof is available; lift pump is now a "pusher pump" style mounted in the tank. Again some people say this is good as the pump has an easier time pushing fuel rather than pulling it, whereas others visualize how much more difficult it will be to change a lift pump.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but others will chime in.

I think what Dave said just about covers it. The 06 MegaCab will be for a specific segment of buyers since according to an article posted on this site it will be a 2500, no long bed, no dual wheel options.

I thought I read for 2005 that the intercooler is now plastic instead of metal, as well as the tanks on the radiator.

The end tanks on the intercooler are plastic. The early build '05s still have the NV5600 (mine does); the G56 is just now beginning to show up.

I love mine. Oo.

Anyone know the difference between an '05 600 and an '04. 5 600?

Some '05's still have the 600 - would a 610 be a better choice? My main concern is mpg.

This sounds like marketing hype to me, I bet if they were dyno'd there'd be so little difference (if any at all) it would be insignificant.

Hi Everybody, I am new here..... but have been lurking around on the board some and DTR.

Regarding the 600 vs. 610... ..... it is my understanding that they are exactly the same and the only difference is in the ECM programming. In other words, if you have your 04. 5 600 engine "reflashed" it is now the same as as 05 610. Naturally, the 05's automatically come with the latest software already installed. Im sure the difference on a Dyno would be pretty insignificant, but I guess for marketing purposes it does keep the Dodge Cummins ahead of the Duramax.

Hi Mac,

Yeah, sorry I wasn't more clear on that. When I said '05's built now have the G-56, I meant that early build '05's still had the NV-5600.

Dave

The rear badges are different. The light in the center (interior) of the cab pushes on/off which is kinda cool.

Other than that... the mileage on our 05 seems to be better than the 04. 5 was from the get go, but post-reflash, my 04. 5 does better. My 04. 5 also feels more stout than the 05. Not sure why, but it does. It also has some new weight sticker telling you not to exceed the limits of the truck.
