What are the fuel systems differences between these models. I see various parts and aftermarket suppliers list parts by two groups. I understand by reading various posts here that there are differences, but I don't know what they are. If you are knowledgable about what is different, please share info.

I don't think there is much if any diffence in hard parts. Later an in tank fuel pump was used, but since then it has also been the standard replacement for the external unit. The biggest differnce is in the programming of fuel injection events. The later ones use a third injection event and have a higher power rating.

The heads, turbo, injectors, exhaust, radiator, programming (3rd injection event), to name a few are different on the '04. 5+ 5. 9's.

Prior to '04. 5 the exhaust was 3. 5" from the downpipe to the muffler, which changed to 4" from the down pipe all the way back on the '04. 5+. The lift pump was relocated to the tank sometime during the '05 model year. The turbo is bigger on the '04. 5 vs prior and the radiator/cooling system was increased to help cool the new design and programming that went in place for the '04. 5 m/y.

LMAO!! :-laf:-laf You didn't edit this and put it in after the posts were made did you?

Injectors are different, rail pressures are different but the rest of the pieces are pretty much the same on the high pressure side. Not sure whether ther eis a different part # for rail, RP relief valve, FCA, etc, between years. There are other motor differences that are significant.

On the low pressure side the LP was moved to the tank in 05 but thats about it.

I don't think the heads are different, are they? I know the exhaust valves are inconel starting in 2004. 5.

I also wasn't aware that the radiator was any different. But the fan shroud is attached to the engine for 2004. 5-up to improve the fan airflow.

I used to have a brouchure on the CTD600 when it came out and it mentioned all the differences, including different heads (for improved flow) and a larger radiator/cooling system.

I will have to check to see if I still have that brouchure.

In addition to everything else stated above the fuel bowl in the pistons are different. . The heads are interchangable, but the later 04. 5's are supposedly better. . The earlier ones dropped valve seats. . Mine did. . Wesley
