Differences between CA engine and non-CA

First post, long time reader, just joined also just purchased a 03 3500 SRW 4X4 48RE. I am in MA and have the same emissions as the CA model, 235HP. Why does the CA equiped trucks have to have thier oil changed twice as often? Sorry if this has been discussed I did a search and nothing came up on it. thanks.
 
I guess maybe a better way to word the question would be what is the difference between the CA and non CA CTD? Also what type of limited slip does the 11. 5" rear have? Thanks for any info
 
the anti-spin is a "trac Loc" works very good

The oil is from the injection timing that cause's a hihger soot level in the oil. The typical epa line the worse it runs the cleaner it is. :rolleyes:

lets not forget the vile evil egr system that is hindering the performance on the fine cummins diesel engine. that add's loads of soot to the system to force the extra oil changes

really? i could of swore i heard/read somewhere that the cali version got an egr valve/system on it already [just like the ford 6. 0pos and the dmax]
 
I have two California models. I believe the oil change inervals are 7500/15000 miles. There is not and EGR on the CA trucks. I think it will come an all ISBe's next year.
 
Thanks for the info so far, the service manual has 3750 and 7500 for the service intervals for trucks with CA emissions, the way they word it in the service manual is a little tricky, the intervals for the CA models have I think a * next to them and without CA have the little cross sign next to them.

Interestingly the power for the CA SO is 235HP and 460ft lbs torque, the non CA SO is 250HP and 450ft lbs of torque, it is listed on the Cummins site. The Dodge site lists SO power with the non CA HP with the CA torque.
 
Called Cummins, the MA, CA, and ME trucks have the EGR and catalytic converter.

They run hotter with the EGR so they require the oil be changed twice as often (as per the Dodge owner's manual) as the non EGR equiped trucks.

2003 trucks do not have and EGR... ... .
 
The only difference that I know of is the oil ports machined into the bottem of the piston of the HO. That and programming. It might have to do with the oil getting dirty and putting off more emissions. I'm not sure why either. But I am sure there is no EGR on the 03's. It is comming out on the 04 that is available to order in September. That is why I bought the 03 SO. No EGR.
 
I have an '03 SO as well, but I live in MA so it has the 235HP and the shorter oil change intervals. I am surprised this has not come up before, I did a search and could not find anything about the differences between the two versons of the SO.
