Ok, I've been searching for a replacement G56 for my '06 RAM and found a good 2WD model for a good price - but my truck is a 4WD. I had been told a long time ago there was no difference except the tail shaft and flange for the 2WD... Can anyone shed light on any other differences - or am I off base here... Did a search and can't find out for sure.

Even if it is "just" the tail shaft and flange you will need someone with experience to swap them over. Contact your local trans mission shop or better yet get the proper one. Shadrach

Well I've answered the question... The difference between the 2WD G56 and 4WD G56 is the rear seal on the transmission. The 2WD has a flange that bolts onto the output shaft, and extends through the seal, the 4WD the transfer case input shaft does not extend through the seal and therefore the transmission seal extends to the output shaft leaving no room for oil to escape. At my local dealer the new seal is 45. 00 delivered.
