I have seen several different posts regarding milage. I now have 11K on my '01 and stole it from the wife to drive to work. last couple of trips the computer has indicated 20+ mpg avg which is just fine. Previous trips the milage was down near 17mpg.
Now the question: will different fuels really make the difference? I had been using Texaco and had heard some bad press regarding cetane rating and actual fuel value(density) So last couple of tanks I tried the "Flying J Gold" Which is only available at the top of the Grapvine on I-5 .
Do "premium" diesel fuels exist in Southern California? If yes where? Who typically sells the better fuel and is actually aware of the specifics of their fuel? Seems like ""yessir we got diesel over there I think? Whats a cetane?????"
Reading numbers from other web sites 42 is "low" and "50" is more than enough cetane for most diesels. BUT NO ONE POSTS THEIR FUELS RATING!!(*&^%$#@

Don't know about Southern Cal but different brands make a 1 to 2 mpg difference. I consistently use Phillips 66. When I do switch because of availability, I see a change.

some brands add different things to do things like raise the citain etc.

I buy at Pacific Pride. The local dealer adds stuff to the fuel after its delevered. I notice about 10% better mileage using this "treated" fuel over standard "gas station" diesel. Not sure if all Pacific Prides treat there fuel, or just my local dealer but since I switched, I have not ran anything else in my diesel truck or car!

I also don't add treatments to the tank myself anymore, its already in there!

Tow Pro, That's interesting... . where I buy my Phillips 66 has just put in the Pacific Pride fleet refueling center (in addition to their truck refueling already there). Isn't that a membership type operation. I rarely see trucks there. Is is a monthly bill. How does it work? They didn't install new tanks, just pumps and refueling islands away from the station. So here, they are using P66.

Good Post. . I had been keeping records of
my mileage since I bought my truck. I had
just began noticing today, that there
appears there could be a 1-2 mpg difference
in mileage, depending on where I bought
the fuel. The city versus highway driving
is obviously different mileage, but when
I group them correctly for the type of
driving, it does show an interesting
picture... .

Well last couple of tanks have been 76 brand and the milage seems to be holding just under 20 MPG. This is slightly less than the Flying J "gold". I may have to try Texaco again to see if milage really goes back down.
Downtown Los Angeles the 76 Stations seem to be the cheapest with 1. 49. 9 at the pump.
