Competition Best pulling upgrades

A good Parker Hannifin hose/fitting shop or a shop that carries Eaton Weatherhead hose/fittings will have all the hose and fittings you could ever need. I used Aeroquip 300psi black fuel hose with reuseable Pushlok fittings.

I'd say the a1000 is no louder than the FASS systems I've been around. BTW it works better as a pusher than a puller. It will work and last many miles/hours pulling the fuel from the top of the tank, but will not have to work as hard if gravity feed from the bottom of the tank.

ok, heard that the A1000 is pretty loud. Anyone confirm this?

Yeah, pretty loud. Good isolators help, though. We mounted mine solid, though - I prefer to hear it working in a pull-only truck. Pics in gallery.

All very good ideas..... but, don't you think you should install a fuel pressure guage and see if you are sucking it down before you go spend large amounts of money??

I know I was sucking the system down to 5PSI before I installed the rack plug... I am probably not quite that high in HP so I imagine he'll need a bit more fuel pressure, but I suppose results may vary. My lift pump was new when tested.

Good thread so far, lets keep it going. I need to revise my system as well as I'll be pushing a good bit more fuel this year.

A fuel pressure gauge is on the to-do list, should I go electric or mechanical? If I go the mechanical route, I have to get a snubber of dampener of some sort dont I?

How do you like the FASS? I can get the FASS 150/180-1010@45PSI 94-98 DODGE 45P SI FASS FUESL SYSTEM 180 GPH FLOW RATE for a pretty good price. Or is that overkill?

Stick to the proven and old technology of the A1000.

I would go with electric gauge, thats what i did on my 95, i like it better than the mechanical one on my 06. My fuel system consists of half inch rubber fuel line all the way from the tank to the pump, with half inch fuel fittings, just used the ones that slip offer and then used hose clamps, used some heavy nylon around the hose when it goes in and out of the frame. I have a filter mounted on the frame then i used a holley blue fuel pump, 110 gph, pretty quiet, then another filer housing, then it goes straight to the pump. I took of the old stock filter housing and the lift pump and just made a plate to cover the hole where it went into the block. Looks cool and we will see how it works.

Any thoughts on the gauge?

I wouldn't worry much about it for a puller only truck. If you just had to have one, I would look into a 100psi electric gauge. I really like my 30psi Westach electric fuel pressure gauge. I know they have 60-100psi electric fuel pressure gauges. I'm sure you could get a 10an, or whatever size hose you intend to run, ' T ', then plumb your fuel pressure gauge inline.

Another thing to think about could be a linear boost fuel pressure regulator like GO 4 LO has hidden at the left rear of his cylinder head in the pics. Lets say the a1000 will put out 70psi. You could regulate the FP to whatever your p-pump likes at idle. Then as boost rises, so will the fuel pressure. FP will rise on a 1:1 ratio when referenced with boost. 20psi FP at idle. At 50psi of boost will = 50psi + 20psi = 70psi of fuel pressure etc. Plus these regulators will have a 1/8npt port to measure FP. At low boost or idle, the regulator return the extra FP/volume back to the fuel tank. This keeps the fuel nice and cool along with the a1000. I'm sure I over explained that huh  .

That's exactly how my system is setup except I still use the stocker and just use the aux when needed, then I hook up the regulator when I want max pressure, you could also hook the regulator up through a electric switch (valet) and open on command from inside the cab.

It looks like the members have pretty well got you taken care of here on this.

I just wanted to add Scheid Diesel just finished a complete rebuild on my 96' Dodge CTD and with my stock system in place (by itself) the new engine with all the added fuel was pulling the pressure down to 10lbs. at WOT! I have had a FP gauge on my truck almost since it was new. Because of that, I went to the 180 GPH FASS and like some of the other members am running that by itself with a good part of the stock system removed (fuel heater/strainer, filter canister etc. ) We left the stock fuel lines under the truck but capped off the ends. I will keep all the stock stuff in case I ever decide to put the truck back to stock. With the 180 GPH FASS I see 65-70lbs @ idle and so far I have not seen it go below 60lbs. under WOT conditions.

As the members said, the Aeromotive 1000 is a great pump and Jim had recommended it to me last summer, but at the time of my rebuild the FASS is what was on hand.

Anyway, good luck to you.

Ok, I think I may be pulling the pressure down pretty good at WOT. I used to be able to pull strong to about 3700rpms, now with the new DVs and more fuel I pull hard to only 3200rpm. I think I need a guage. I was looking on Summits site and the Autometer electric gauge isnt recommended for Dodge Diesels. Will the pulsing wreck the sender? Or do I got mechanical with a snubber?

It is, wait till it lean bangs on the topend like mine did last year.
