O. k We all know heat is a bad thing ... . In Fact ugly.

Now take this to the other extreem. Like -5 ambient air temp , driving @ 65 - 70 mph and the trans temperature guage starts at a hundered and Never makes it there in fact the needle goes DOWN!

Now how bad for the seals is it to be FULLY AS WARM AS YOU CAN GET when its this cold out and you are towing. How bad is the thick fluid for the seals and whatnot in the trans.

The two main problems will be that the moisture, that causes acids and sludge to form won't be burnt off and you will have slower shifts. It will take longer for the pressure to fully apply or release . I don't like to see the Allison in my stacker truck below 150*

TMTT, check your gage...

I just ran 80MPH to Rhode Island and saw 125 on the temp gauge!

The other day I also saw 125 in the really COLD temps.

Could it have something to do with my cold winter front?

My temp sender is in the pan and it will drop to less than 60deg in the cold weather out on the open road. When left to idle for a few minutes it will come up close to engine temp 170deg +. Even after it has come up that far up it will cool down again to 60 or so out on the open road. This is with the grill blocked right off and a piece of cardboard in front of the rad. Had to go to a digital gage to get the readings below the 100deg. With the pressures that I'm running a double deep pan would probably be a recipe for disaster.
