I was wondering what would happen if I had to use my stock size spare with my 245 19. 5's in the event I have a tire go down. Granted, it would be fixed as soon as possible. If it was a front tire that was flat, would swap a front and rear to keep both fronts the same size. Really dont want to spend $500 on a 19. 5 tire and wheel spare if a 265-70-17 will work in an emergency.

Appreciate some opinions.

I've got a DORF F 550 as well as the trucks listed below... we've never had a flat on a 19. 5 because of the strength of the tire... ... the truck now has 375K miles... . But we do have posi-tracks in all the trucks... I wouldn't put an odd size spare on the ground... . not even for 2 or 3 miles...

Just my thoughts. .

It would be more important to keep like sized tires on the rear if you have the anit-spin read diff.

Different sized tires may also throw an ABS code.

I have 35" tires with stock spare. Lost the bead on a front while low pressure driving in sand. Put the spare on to get off the beach in San Felipe and ever 30' or so a very loud knock was heard. Only drove about 100yrds in the dirt. I wouldn't even try it on pavement. I was in 2 wheel drive.

Different diameter tires rolling down the road on the same vehicle will also probably throw an ABS code since the speed sensors will be out of sync with each other.

A few years back on my '98 w/o limited slip rear, I had a wheel come off and shear 5 studs. Was running 255's and put on the spare which I believe was a 235. Anyway, had no choice but to drive since it was in the middle of nowhere here in Wyo. w/ a 4 horse loaded trailer. Drove that way for about 150 miles albeit slowly--35 mph. Didn't hurt a thing and truck drove fine as long as I owned it.

Thanks quys. I never thought of the posi(which I have) or the abs. Hunting seasons coming and I just think I need to carry an appropriate size spare.

I think I would shoot for a 17" spare that was the same or very close overall dia. as the 19. 5's.

Unless you travel really heavy and need the weight rating.
