No, this isn't about how fast the track bars wear out, I'm well aware of it, with my changeout interval at every 20,000 miles or so (200+ on truck now).
What I'm seeing occur on my truck is an elongation of the bolt hole down on the axle. When this started, I can't honestly say, but it's been since December. I have developed an almost permament bumping in the frontend every time I turn my wheel, at first I thought it was a bad trackbar (I'd just replaced it less that 1400 miles before), so I swapped it out with my spare I keep at the house, and that didn't solve the problem. Finally got my 9 year old to turn the wheel of the truck back and forth a couple of weeks ago and saw where there was an 1/8th to 1/4 inch play in the bolt hole. I pulled the bolt out and sure enough, the hole is stretching open from the crappy roads here in Bikiniville (did I mention it's spring and the short skirts are shorter this year?).
I put it back together as there wasn't anything I could do about it at the time, and tightened the **** out of it. It stopped for a few weeks and is starting to come back when I hit the hard holes around here on the roads.
Any suggestions on fixing it? I'm thinking probably reinforcing the front with a washer welded in place, but the back side is another matter altogether, as you wouldn't be able to get a washer in there and weld it up, and there isn't enough space on the inside to do it and get the track bar back inside it too.
