Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Differental Slippage

I have a 98 2500 auto. When I go to make a left turn only, my truck sometimes feels like the diff. is slipping, but it doesn't happen all the time. Mu Rear Diff. is a Dana 70 @ a 4. 10 gear. Can anyone help with this please? The local mechanics can't seem to get the job done!

Does your truck have a limited slip differential? Does it give a juddering feel when you take off and turn? If so, it's probably the limited slip differential clutches chattering. Add a little Mopar friction modifier and see if that takes care of it before you tear it apart - not too much or your limited slip won't be limited any more!!

Yes, it is a limited slip diff. I changed out the fluid the other day and put an additive in it with a 80w-90 lucas synthetic oil. I have only had one incident since then.

I have an '01 (50K miles, 6 speed) with an originally limited slip diff. Now, in wet weather, I can spin one rear tire with moderate go pedal. Is my diff going bad? Does it need some TLC?



I have had the truck for 5 months and it's now due for my first oil change. Should I also do something with the diff?

Dang slippery roads! I despise winter!

I need some help or advice regarding my rear differential now that we had our first snowfall. I had to try three times to pull away from the curb, backing up each time and getting further each time.



What can I do to get back to limited slip in the differential?

I'm not 100% sure on the 98's, but on my 01. 5 with a dana 80 and a tracloc the factory did a crappy job of stacking the plates and clutches in my rear end. I pulled it apart and restacked them, added some LSD additive until the chatter went away, now it works great. Well as good as an LSD can work. It sucks for rock crawling, but does GREAT in the mud. If it's not working the only way to fix it is to pull it and restack it, or get new clutches. Pretty easy job, I did it in about 3 hours and that was taking my time. I have a pic of it in my gallery but for some reason it won't come up right now.

Factory stack was

c-c-c-c-c-p-p-p-p-p-c-p-c-p p-c-p-c-p-p-p-p-c-c-c-c

c= clutch

p= plate

now it's staggerd c-p-c-p-c-p-c... etc
