I changed my differential fluid using mobile 1 75w/90 and the rear end chattered. I added friction modifier (3 tubes, 1 at a time) and still had the chatter. So i drained it again and went with the RP 75W140 and still have the chatter. I added 1 tube of friction modifier at a time (3) and still have the chatter. My question is, do i have a problem with my differential or should i keep adding FM until the chatter goes away. This was suppose to be a simple job and turned out to be VERY flustrating.

It will take a little bit for the modifier to soak into the clutches... how long did you wait between the time you added modifier and the time you drove it and refilled it???

I added 2 tubes initially and did several figure 8's and drove for about 20 miles. Than i added another one and have been driving for over 100 miles. I was afraid to add to much. Should i drive it "as is" for awhile?

I tried the tube stuff from the parts store, didn't work. Got the 4 oz bottle from dodge,7 bucks put in 1 oz did the figure 8 still chattered, added another oz was lots better . The directions say to use all 4 but 2 did a great job.

I just did my rear diff with Valvoline Syntec no chatter and ls works fine. No modifier on my 02 and LS works fine. 85/140. Aloha Ron

Dirk,

Thanks for the information. I put in 4oz's of the Dodge friction modifier and the chatter is gone. I was getting the other stuff from Auto Zone. Problem solved. Thanks again.
