What weight Amsoil for axle differentials?

Do I still need DC additive for rear?

I can't tell you about Amsoil for I use Royal Purple. Comes with the proper amount of limited slip additive in an easy to pour bottle. Not cheap, but I don't think amsoil is either.

if you do any towing at all 75w-140W is the way to go and no friction modifier should be necessary

For both front and rear go with the series 2000 75W-140. You don't need the friction modifier with the synthetic. You made a wise choice with the AMSOIL. Oo.

I would stay with 75W90. Use the Series 2000. That is all I have ran. Truck has been pulled hard summer and winter. I have not found a need for heavier oil. I change every 40 - 50K I grab a sample to be analyzed. Every still tight and factory orginal.



Synthetic or not, heavier oil is still thick in the winter.

Go with the Series 2000 75W-90. Amsoil has an additive for the LS, but make sure you figure 8 after change. You might need some addional LS additive if you hear an type of chirping. Amsoil says you can add a tube of LS additive to their oil if you want without worrying about over filling the LS additive ratio for the differential.

Not to start a war or anything (I don't do such things ) but after installing that particular lube, my limited-slip was more limited to slip, than to hold, even after the figure-8 routine. After switching to "another" lube, my diff has been great ever since, not hit or miss. This was my experience, it may not be yours, just a heads up.

I run Mobil 1 Synthetic in the diffs, and I did need to put friction modifier in..... the rear was chatterin like crazy around the corners.



I don't know what the heck the factory puts in but this stuff was wierd, light weight, springy, foamy, goopidy gook... . Strangest diff lube I've ever seen.

So, the winner is. . . he!! I don't know. I'm more confused than ever. Glad I'm not doing my rear dif till next time I land. Will hit the boards then and see what the majority consensus is I guess.

a quick up-date, I have been using the amsoil for 4-5 years in the dodge, it has a 4:10 rp with limited slip, I have had no problems and it is quiet without any chattering. I use the amsoil in all our vehicals without a problem. My ford has 4:56's and a auburn pro series limited slip, and it's about as quiet as can be expected (slight shudder on very tight turn, alittle more if under acceleration). Also I didn't use any friction modifier .

I just installed a Mag Hytec cover on my rear diff. and replaced the OEM fluid with Amsoil 75W-140W. Truck has LS so I did the figure eight routine and listened for chatter, none heard. Have about 500 miles on it now, no noise, no additive, happy so far.
