This is a picturre of my Differentail Gear oil after 45,000 miles on the fluid. The truck has 50,000 plus miles at this point. COLOR is still nearly the same as when installed!

Gear oil was AMSOIL Series 2000 75W-90.

What is that susposed to show? If the truck has been sitting for 24 hours or so all the sediment will settle to the bottom, it is not like engine oil where the stuff is held in suspension, anything from the diffs will be iron and drop right out. You should also point out that Amsoil no longer makes the series 2000 gear oil and a number of people have reported on the TDR having gear noise in the AAM diffs with anti spin when using that oil, most also reported the noise when away when it was changed out.

My 94 model had 200K on it when I changed the factory axle oil front and rear, it looked that good also!!!!

I had the same oil in mine, I like the blue color. I changed it at about 50k miles with the same results and little to no metal on the magnet. I put in the Amsoil 2000 75w-140 and it seems to be running a little warmer with the heavier oil in it. Also with the 75w-90 I had no friction modifier and no chatter, with the 140w I had to add the modifier. Did Amsoil discon the 2000 75w-90?

The picture (ABOVE) shows the oil was not very discolored, which would indicate the gear oil had not oxidized much. The differential cover was a Mag-Hytec, and has magnets in the dipstick as well as the drain plug. There was VERY LITTLE debri on those magnets, which would indicate not much wear on the components.

I did however remove the cover to correct a bad seal, and therefore I did change out the lube. ( the seal was allowing a drop of lube to come out about every 5-6 days. ) The lube of choice was the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 because the series 2000 is not available anymore as you stated above.

Below is a picture of the gears with the cover removed. This picture shows VERY LITTLE wear, if any, and the interior is spotless.

I had similar results on my '01 with Amsoil in the diff. Changed it after running it 35-40k and still looked like new. That was with the stock cover & about half the amount of fluid as Amsoilman's rig. The magnet had NOTHING on it other than a miniscule metallic film maybe a few microns thick.

Amsoil change

I am planning to change my rear diff lube to Amsoil Severe gear 75-90 in a few days. I can't find any information on the fluid capacity. The rear axle is anti-spin but I don't know if it's 10. 5 or 11. 5 AAM model. Does anyone know how much oil I can expect to put in the diff?

Anyone else experiencing noise or other quirks using Amsoil with 2003 anti-spin?

Thanks

I'm quite sure your truck would have the 11. 5 AAM axle. You would need about 4 quarts to fill if you have the standard cover.

Amsoilman... ... ... You'll have to forgive bert. He's from the NewEngland area and still believes Ted K is the best choice for President. So you can see his belligerence toward the oil. Forgive him my son. He was just raised that way.

I don't remember stating anywhere on the TDR where I was raised, if you read the political forums on here you will see my political affiliations are the exact opposite of what you are suggesting. I also thought personal attacks were not tollerated on the TDR, but I guess when you cannot come up with any facts to disprove what I wrote. that is all you can come up with. What about my post above is not true?

Sensitivity is not what you need to carry through life , my child. Some folks carry a "large chip" on there shoulder and others can just have fun and enjoy life. You are the former. If you are that sensitive, you should be born in the south and listen to the digs we recieve. When I'm called a redneck, I just take that as a "pride " thing. If you ain't one of us, you won't understand.

Just lighten up a little and enjoy all the love we have for each other. Personal attack?

Oh well.
