Question,
If I want to use 80w90 gear dope instead of thermally stable 90 weight as the owners manual calls for would his cause any problems ? The owners manual calls for thermally stable 90 weight and the factory service manual calls for 75w-140 synthetic for heavy duty towing applications, or thermally stable 90 for non-towing applications. Now I know I have the rig to tow with, but the fact remains, I only tow with my rig about once a year. And even then, only 50 miles tops with 5,000 lbs or less, so I believe I don't need the synthetic for my application. I also change my gear fluid every 12,000 miles, this gives me a chance to remove the banjo plate and clean out any metal shavings or other foreign matter.
