Guys,

I want to lower numerically, my differential ratio in my truck from a 3. 54 to a 3. 24 or so. Where can I get these parts? Is it something I can do with the manual and the parts?

Thanks,

Tommy Hill

Gear ratio choices will be dictated by which rear end you have. But generally, for the >10% change you are proposing, its not worth it, especially if you have a 4x4. Differential gears start around $160 (for a cheapie set of Genuine Gears), plus $40 for an install kit, plus installation if you don't have the proper tools/know how. Or, you could add an Overdrive, about a . 8:1, from either US gear or Gear Vendors.

There is one cost-effective way to do this, however. Buy bigger tires. Just how much bigger will depend on what size you have now, but it won't be drastic. A lot of guys here run 255/85s (myself included) or 285/75s. An added benefit is looks.

Thanks for the good advice. I may have to replace the bearings and gears anyway, as all the fluid eaked out and it tried to sieze Saturday. I caught it, but it was empty when I added gear oil! The seal on the yoke is the culprit there.

Going to the 19. 5" Rickson's would do it also, and then I could recalibrate the speedo... . thanks, good idea, if i donot have to replace the chunk.
