Just got back from a trip with my trailer, about 800 miles. I was taking a look around the truck today and noticed that the paint on the diff cover is pealing. Looks like it got hot, I have 3000 miles on the truck a almost all are towing. What are you thoughts, any damage? Mag-hytech cover I guess I need one. Are there any warranty issues once its installed?? Truck towed killer we had some 16% grades both up and down no problems.

I use the PML cover, a nice product as well. You won't have any warranty problems with the Mag Hytec as my local dealer carries and installs them. Carson Dodge also Carries and installs them. . THe peeling of the rear diff cover is NOrmal and does not necessarily mean your diff got unusually hot, they all seem to do it!!

I just changed the rear diff oil last weekend for the 2nd time (1st at 15k, now has 48k). I bead blasted the cover to remove the rust and flaking paint and repainted with Rustoleum. Time will tell how it holds up, but I do believe the cover had a poor paint job from the factory, and it was not heat related.

I think they paint over dirt and rust with a broom when the rear ends are assembled. Mine was peeling and looked like it was cooked. When I changed fluids, I just buffed it with a wire wheel and shot on a coat of rattle can primer and a couple coats of Rustoleum black.

Have over 1200 miles towing since and so far it looks fine, much better than new.
