It's time for a new poll

who is strangest Doc or Whitmore

Well I have been looking around on the net reading reviews and such... I am still undecided.

So help me pick which camara is best?

Canon Powershot S30

Canon Powershot S40

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S85

I have read reviews etc, but alot of the stuff means nothing to me... ... . so asking for opinions. I'm a beginner as far as digital camara goes... ... ...

I'd like to be able to take decent pics at the track and any other truck event I goto. Also general pics of the truck and different installs etc. Also intend to use the movie mode for dragstrip runs of my truck (and others).

So which would you pick and why? Thanks

Of these, the Sony may produce slightly better pictures, but the Canon S40 would be good choice as well. If you will only require a maximum of 128MB (about 40- 60 highest quality pictures) of picture storage, I would choose the Sony. If will require more than that you should pick the Canon S40.

I did a lot of looking also for a good camera. I was looking to buy one for a friend for her birthday. She takes a lot of pictures and knows her way around a camera. After talking to many salesmen and reading reviews I decided on the Olympus brand. They had the highest rating from their owners. Olympus was the one the salesmen don't see come back in for repairs. They are very durable and take great pictures.

If the camera was for me, I am a simple kind of guy, I would have purchased the Olympus D550. In fact I did get the D550 at first, but exchanged it because it is auto focus only. I ended up getting an Olypus C3020. It is a great camera and different lenses and filters can be added to it. It will just fit my friends needs better.

We have a Canon powershot A40 here at work. It is a good camera and priced well.

I have been talked out of the Sony's by all the salesmen I spoke with. You have to pay for the name and have to buy Sony's acc. , unlike the others where you can by acc. made by a different company. Sony's verson of what I bought was over $150 more.

I hope this helps

Being in the biz, I can tell you that the Canon would be a better camera for you. The Sony's "better" picture quality is argueable. But more importantly, you need to deceide ultimately what you intend to do with the photos. That will in part determine you need for resolution. I for one HIGHLY reccomend the Olympus Camedia E-10 and 20. For the money their quality and features rival that of the much higher priced higher quality Canon D-30 or EOS 1-D.

I'm sure you've come accross this site Kat, but it is an excellent one if you haven't: Digital Camera Reviews

Ya I have been looking at that site alot as well as a few others.

I'm pretty much sold on the Canon line... but really debating if the extra cost for the S40 is worth it for me?

I just wanna take pictures of stuff... ... ... and some videos... mainly truck stuff. But who knows once I start... ..... lol

The only advantage of a higher pixel camara is better at higher resolutions?
