Digital Camera help

Digital cameras have been discussed before and I think I have found a pretty good one in the Kodak DC290, they can be had on ebay for ~$400.



You can also get video cameras for $400-$600 that can take digital stills. Why would you buy a digital camera when you can buy a video camera that does more for the same money.



I have a couple of trips coming up and I need one or the other. What are youse guys experiences and opinions. Thanks for the help.

Compare the resolution between the video and still cameras. I think that you will find that the digital still cameras have much better resolution, but if the resolution of the video camera meets your needs, go for it. Personally, I have no use for a video camera, but use my digital still camera all the time, like for taking pictures of stuff like this #ad

I have the Kodak DC290 and the only thing that I don't like about it is the time delay when you press the shutter release until the shutter actually trips. Maybe I'll get used to it, but I'm sure I will miss a quick action shot because of it.



If you want a digital still camera for small snapshot prints and web use, get the Kodak DC215. It's small, quick and has great color. Just be careful of the aluminum case. I crushed mine when I put it in my pocket while building a patio deck.

You can find a listing of Kodak Cameras here. The DC 290 is discontinued, but the DC 215 is still current. I have my eye on a DC 3400, which COSTCO will have on sale on their WEB SITE ONLY next week for $329. 40 delivered to my door. Correction on the COSTCO dates it is June 11-17 ONLY. I ordered mine this morning.



In my research, I think the Kodak line is pretty solid. Maybe not always the best all around in every review, but they seem to win hands down on picture quality. Isn't that the hallmark of a good camera?



I have a 35 mm point and shoot Kodak K14 that I bought in 1986 (I think) that is still going strong. It has never had a thing done to it, and takes excellent pictures for a point and shoot.

I have a sony digital. It takes stills or mpeg movies. I think(I am at work) it is the S50. I bought it over the internet for $480. 00.

Check out www.streetprices.com I bought my Sony MVC-92 from one of the vendors on there. It retailed for $599. I got it for $477. Not too bad. They also have the tuner I want for $1995. That retails for $5999. They've beaten MySimon everytime I've been there.

My vote goes to the Sony Mavica line. I have had the early one which used the disk to store the pictures, that's a easy way to get your pictures to a computer, any computer. Don't have to have a set up for flash/memory cards etc. I now have the one that uses a 156 meg CD holds 156 pictures at 1600x1200. Great set up. . Just my . 02
