cool picture of something faster than HVAC!

I've been looking at Wal-Mart lately for a digital camera. I am not much in cameras and was wondering what is a good cheap digital camera? I don't want anything real expensive or too hard to use. I want it in the $200 range if possible.

My sister is out of town for awhile so I have hers for a few months. Its a Kodak DC260 ZOOM Camera. Not sure on cost it was a gift to her for graduating high school. Very nice very easy to use. Eats batteries like all h*ll though. I bought a Box of AAs for this weekend lol. Good thing I work for a Battery Company #ad

Bad340fish,
We have had a Kodak DC240 for about 18 months and have taken over 2,000 photos with it. Great camera!!

We use the Kodak rechargeable batteries and the Kodak battery charger. We have 2 sets--use one set while the other set is recharging or in reserve. The AAA batteries you buy in the store won't "last until the water gets hot"--been that route. We've tried the other batteries and have found that the Kodak last better than anything else. Also the thing that eats battery life is keeping the camera on the "Review' looking at your photo in the screen. Use the plug-in power supply when downloading your photos on the computer. If you have an USB port available on the computer, use it--much faster.

Sony Mavica FD-73/75. You just can't beat floppies for storage. No cables, no hassle, can use on any machine. Sony has some new small cams that burn cd's coming out, soon.

I love my Mavica FD-87. I carry about 10 floppies with me in the case. Take all the pictures I want, then download them on the hard drive, re-format the disc and go again. If you choose the 640 X 480 setting, you can take almost 30 pictures on one disc. I have it set to take about 10 per disc. It's a little more than $200 though. Mine was a gift, but I did check around, they run about $400. Heck, the rechargable battery with the charge level indicator would help save some money on batteries. I know the FD-90 also takes 30 to 60 sec videos too. All the pics on my site are taken with the Sony.

As a user of 640 X 480 cameras... I don't think even one of them made decent pictures for anything but web shots.

For $200, you presently can't get anything very good. If you want to stretch that a bit, and perhaps shop around some, I think you can do quite well... but the price point for a good camera is a little over 300 now. That's pretty good, considering that 3 years ago, it was well over $1000. Anyway, if the camera can't do close to double the 640 X 480 resolution, it simply won't make printable images that are decent.

Do a search in Yahoo and check reviews on zdnet.com, as well, for color, contrast, and sharpness capabilities. I had to write a paper on digital cameras a year ago, and I've noticed that prices have changed considerably since then, as well as lots of new models having been introduced...

Good luck #ad

Check eBay. MVC-FD73's are going for $200-250 on the low end. I LOVE mine. Great for shooting pics of wiring, before disassembly. Helps the brain-empaired like me to put it back together right!!

If you are searching for anything electronic, check out www.streetprices.com They have the best prices on all kinds of stuff. For example, I have a Sony Mavica FD-92. At the local discount store it's $599. I got it for $477. #ad
give it a shot.
