Just installed guages and for lights I tapped into the #5 fuse with an add a curcuit. Not happy with the way it plugs in, not very tight and it puts a drain on the dimmer system for the dash lights so they don't really dim that well.
I thought I saw a thread on this but can't find it doing a search for it.
Papa Joe jump in here if you see this, know you have done a lot with the electrical. Just would like the guage lights to dim with the dash lights using a better system.

Evan is the MAN on this one... he knows his stuff. Bet he has done at least five of these in MY driveway!

I'd rather be... .
Cummin than Strokin.

I also tapped into the fuse panel. Very easy to do and gauge lights will dim and even turn off same as dash lights. Just make sure you tap into the fuse protected side.

I tapped into the #5 fuse too. I did have to grind the end of the tap down for a snug fit. Used a light tap from a screwdriver to set it firmly in place. The only problem I had was that when I reduced the illumination for the dash, the gauges were too dim to read. I ended up tapping into another fuse so my gauge lights are always on.
I looked at other higher-wattage bulbs and tried one that is used for turn signal/marker applications. It put out enough heat that I worried it would cause the gauge face to warp. Went back to the original.

If anyone has experience with a bulb that works better than the 194 I would love to know!

Kind of confirms my thoughts of grinding down the spades.
