My son has an 05 and the are dimples starting to pop thru the tailgate. One on each side, mid way near the edge. One has cracked paint. It looks like someone hit it with a nail from the inside, yet it's all double wall and the inside skin isn't damaged.

Just trying to figure out if there's something inside that's causing it like tailgate linkage or something?

Anybody else see this on their truck?

TIA

Jay

My old truck (chev s10) had the same thing happen on the bedside. It ended up being an imperfection in the paint. Chevy repainted the bedside for me and all was well.

Yep... mines this way... I think I may have either put too much weight on the gate or bumped something on the top of the gate (when the gate was down)... it just happened this past weekend too... the driver's side is worse than the passenger's (the paint is cracked beside just being dimpled)... and the only thing I did was load a larger land and garden tractor... probably less than 600 pounds...

These 3rd gens are VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, CHEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAPPPPP!

My 99 was 10 times the truck this 04 is... I have dings, dents, and chips all over this truck... my 99 had NONE and got the same abuse.

My 03 had that on each rear quarter panel, just in front of the wheel well. I took it in to the dealer, and they basically gave the "oh, well, whatever...come back when your panels are rusted through".

I thought it may have been caused by the paint testing they did back in the big primer fiasco of 03.

I had a load of lumber slide back and overload the tailgate. Now I have the small outward dents on either side of mine as well. :( I think as the cable gets pulled too hard, it twists the edge of the tailgate.
