and Ding, Ding... Look at the gauges and NO Oil Pressure!!!!

At first you get a chill up your spine then you remember the Gas gauge did the same thing at 2,000 miles. So I pull over and check the Oil level . . OK. So I walked two blocks to the parts store...

75 pesos later I was back at my truck installing a manual analog type gauge complete with copper tubing... Removed the extra pipe plug on top of the oil filter and connected the tubing. . ran the tubing up to the windshield. . looped it around the windshield wiper and hooked on the gauge... removed the windshield wiper fuse so I wouldn't make a stupid mistake and turn on the wipers...

Then started up my baby... ... YEEHAH! OIL PRESSURE..... of course it is a DC related problem not CUMMINS!

Okay now for the REST OF THE STORY!!!
after driving it around for a day and watching the erratic factory gauge...

I called up the ***** (5 STAR) dealer in PHX. AZ and explained my problem. .

I mentioned that using my experiance in light and heavy trucks mechanics for over 20 years I felt the sending unit was bad.

The Service Advisor replys that they have to hook it up and do their tests.

I said fine but since I have to drive over 500 miles and shut down my buisness for two days so they can "TEST" my truck would he please have a sending unit in stock when I came in. So I make an appointment. 2 weeks later I leave my baby in their hands and get a hotel room.

4 hours later the service advisor calls... GUESS WHAT??? the sending unit is bad and they have to order it!!! Can I come back in 10 days when they will have one in stock!!!

That dealership will never see me again!

( ? Did I mention the the woman --NO INSURANCE-- who crashed into my left rear fender {$2,500 damage}when I was stopped out infront of the dealer ship headed back to my hotel room).

Sorry for the long post... I needed to vent a little!

The problem you experienced is not a bad sending unit. The dealer you are using must not check their TSB's. There is a reflash for the ECM to solve this problem. Just came out last week. I had the same problem with a customer's truck a month ago-I replaced the sender, and the gauge dipped to zero a week after the sender was replaced. We reflashed the ECM last week and it has been fine ever since.

I had the same problem with my oil pressure gauge a couple of weeks ago. The dealer replaced the sending unit(sensor?) and all is well after 1000 miles of driving.

Fact:The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines! The new PSD's need them!
 
Did the dealer replace the sending unit under the 100k mile warrenty or did you have to pay for a non covered electrical component.
My gauge has been going off and on for 1+ week now.
 
I haven't fixed my problem yet...

Dodge tech. . Have you seen this problem more than once?? My truck runs great and after some of the stories and my personal experiances with dealers I am more than a little scared about letting a dealer under my hood for a oil change let alone a ECM reflash! Kwikkurt

I had a post on this some time back. Search & you should find it. It was a 98. Have had 2000 since then & no problems. But you know what happens when you start bragging about something. So I am not saying no more.
