What do you folks consider the better dino gear lubes and ATF's?

The local auto parts store carries the following

ATF: Valvoline, Chevron, Mobil 1, Penzoil

Gear Lube: Valvoline and Mobil 1

Should I shop around for some others, or are any of these plenty good?

These are for a '97 Suburban 4x4, 5. 7L.

Thanks.

Jason

Well, the Mobil 1 line of product is not a dino oil, it is a full synthetic. I am using it in both axles on my truck and am very happy with it, it works really well. I would recommend you put synthetic lubes in the axles period, the rear needs it for sure if you tow or bomb.

ATF is ATF in my opinion, but I look for Valvoline products when I buy dino fluids out of habit. I have used Valvoline in everything for a lot of years. When I worked as a mechanic full time and tore down a couple of engines that had been run on one oil their entire lives I felt the Valvoline engines were in better condition. That is VERY subjective, your experiences may be different. Most professional mechanics that I have known use Valvoline in their own vehicles too. I don't care for the Penzoil in engines, but I have used their ATF before when I could not get anything else or when a customer required it. When a customer does not specify what I use they get Valvoline.

I agree with LS, hard to go wrong with Valvoline.

Just found out last week that all Napa brand lube oils are rebadged Valvoline.
