redneckdr,

I use the trailer plug to power my white knights and use the running light pin as the power circuit. After checking the service manual for my truck (99), it was clear that the lighting for the trailer is coming from the same source as the B+ but it is only powered when the Ram's lights are on. This way my expensive bulbs are not wasted during day time.

I had some trouble with the backup light pin in the hitch, but suspect the white knight relay was just wired normally closed rather than normally open... .

Sure is nice having those 55wattx2 bulbs behind me!!

back up lights

david_vt:

yeah, i did the same thing. i got a pair of "back up lights" from auto zone, for about 20 bucks. they are each 55 watt halogens. the lenses spread the light, and work great! i've seen small fog lights used the same way. i powered them from the 12v+ in the trailer harness through a relay triggered from the backup light connection in the trailer harness. i can now SEE what i'm running into when i hit something. before, i could only guess by what it sounded like or the howl it let out!:D
