As I stand here with Dip Stick in hand!!!!!!!! It leaks. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? The leak is at the HANDLE end. There appears to be some sort of rubber washer in the handle. Dodge of course wants $46 for a new dipstick. Any suggestions? 1991 le250 diesel, burgiebill

There shouldn't be any oil at the top end of the dip stick. Make sure the main vent tube that is on the drivers side of the engine isn't plugged and causing a crankcase pressure problem. That could push vapors up the dip stick tube and could result in a build up at the top end of the stick.

(was going to make a snide comment about "standing there with dip stick in hand" but figured I'd better leave that alone. Would only get me in trouble!) :-laf

Just like said before check your vent and make sure it's not pluged.

And I'm gonna let that one go!! :-laf :-laf

Mine has been doing that since new, leaking I mean. I have replaced the dipstick once. And is still does it. I just figure its an auto luber for the throttle cables.

Dipstick in hand... ... auto luber... ... . make sure your vent isnt plugged.....

Wow, so many possibilities in one thread is rare. :-laf But, all my dipsticks have leaked  My vent is clear and flows the blowby gasses out just fine. Oh gosh, we need to start over, guys. This is going to get out of hand.

If I can get serious for a moment , there is a rubber grommet/ gasket on the handle end of the dipstick. All six of them have been deteriorated to the point they leak. If you leave an opening on an engine, oil will leak out, no matter where or how small. I have tried Ultra Black RTV silicone, to no avail. If I think of it, I can check around and see what options I can come up with. Might be something to look into getting a group purchase or runnin a basement (or in my case, garage) enterprise type deal.
