I was looking at a few threads on another web site and saw one that had his dip stick showing too full. He had taken it to the dealer and they told him he had diesel in his oil . There was a reply from another guy that went out and checked his oil after reading the thread and said his also showed too full . His truck went to the dealer and they said his truck was ok . both trucks had about 2000 miles on them when they noticed this . after reading this , i went out and checked my oil and mine showed too full (all the way over the plastic part at the start of the metal cable) . i called my dealer and the diesel mechanic said not to drive it and call roadside assistance and have it hauled in . the truck went to the dealer yesterday but , i have not heard anything yet . i checked the oil just after i got the truck but , i don't remember if the oil level covered the plastic or not . i just realized that the oil is only supposed to be to the top of the add line by looking at the manual . i was just curious if anyone had heard of any other trucks showing too full ???

by the way mine is at 2500 miles .

Just had one sampled that the guy said the truck was making oil. Turns out it had less than 2% fuel in the sample. The oil was changed twice before the sample and 12 quarts added each time. The oil had about 2000 miles at sample time. So it looks like it is a dipstick error in reading the stick, or they really do not drain all the oil out during the change. I still say add 12 and drive it until it's ready for a change.

This is still an outstanding registered problem with Dodge on my 2007. 5 truck. Chrysler has told me to run 11 quarts until the problem is diagnosed. Their logic on that is the oil level is right up to the top of the pan when it is at the normal full mark. I checked it out with the pan off and the dipstick full mark is only about a quarter inch below the bottom of the block. So if the oil level is 2 inches above the full mark like it is on my truck, then the oil is above the seal on the pan and also the connecting rod caps are bathed in oil.

What we don't know is how much oil is in the pan when the engine is running. Personally I think it goes to a normal level and the over full condition is due to drain back after it is shutdown, possibly from the oil cooler.

Mine was showing over full at 2000 miles also so they did the change and said it come from the factory like that. Then he add more than he should have at the change and it was a little over full in the morning . Now with 6500miles it stays at the full mark even after a 2100 mile trip at 70mph with a load. I think its just a breakin issue.

thanks for the replies . that makes me feel a lot better knowing there is probably nothing wrong . i just heard from the dealer and they said it was just over full and no problems . it was worth the trip to the dealer though because there was a new flash out since my ast one and i got that done.

Oil Level 2008 Mega Cab

The only time I've seen the dipstick show the correct level was the day I took delivery of my truck and it had 9 miles on the odometer. It now has

810 miles on the clock and I'm getting read to leave out for a 3 day trip to Dallas... ... oil shows to be at the top of the plasic, almost to the metal. will

probably put 1,000 miles on this trip and will check each day to monitor the

dipstick..... Fuel milage is approx 14 in city driving and have gotten as mich

as 16. 8 on some hiway driving, all hand calculated... ... Really don't expect

a lot of improvement before 15,000 plus... . It will be interesting to watch the

EGT's and REGEN's after Andy Redmonde installs my gauges this weekend.

Got 614 miles on my 2008 6. 7 and when I got it it was at

the full mark. Now it has a oil level above the plastic dipstick.

My brother has 8000 on his and has changed oil twice. Each

time it was on the full mark and increases over time to over

the dipstick. He called Cummins and they said it is a possible

seal problem with the injection pump or an injector. My dealer

brought it back down to the full mark and said to check it.

Anyone else have this problem?

Mark

i have that problem too, dodge changed mine at 5900 miles. i checked it at 7900miles and it is 1/2 above the plastic. i am going to keep an eye on it. thinking about pulling a smaple to send in.
