I puchased the DiPricol Optix boost and pyro guages around May 15th. The next day I am having problems with the pyro - works ok for 30-45 minutes and then has a mind of it's own. Turn the truck off, restart, and it works fine again for the same amount of time. I contact the selling dealer the next day after installation (4 days after receiving shipment) and they can do nothing for me. I was forced to send directly to DiPricol for "testing. " So far I know nothing. Will be calling again tomorrow.

The last 2 weeks, the boost guage has a internal buzzing noise over 15-20lbs of boost. I am not having good luck with these guages. Never had problems with Ispro's in the past.

Any others?

Keep me updated on this topic. I have been thinking about going with these gauges. I had the Isspro's in my 05 and loved them, maybe I'll have to stick with the Isspros and bypass the DiP's

I am having the same exact problem with my optix on my pyro. To be more detailed it really only happens when I am towing and getting up to around 1300 degrees. As soon as I get that hot for a few seconds it will go crazy. It will go down to zero then go to 1600 then 1000 etc. THis happens really fast back and forth. Once I crest the hill and let off the pedal everything goes back to normal. The only reason I'm not more concerned is that fact that my truck is stock. Keep my posted. I need to get this fixed also.

Update. Just got off the phone with DiPricol. Had to call myself. Guage is "damaged". They say there is a dent in the bezel. Warranty sticker also missing. Hmmmm. Not sure how, it was packaged very well. They can do nothing for me and sending it back now. Most likely will go into the garbage.

Still having a problem with the boost guage buzzing over 15 lbs. of boost. I made the decision today these are coming out of the truck, I am taking the $350. 00 loss and moving on. Never had a problem with my Isspros which were in 3 of my last diesel trucks nor the Edge Attitude in my Excursion.

I believe the Optix is one of the better looking guages for our trucks, but that is not the reason we buy them. I am sure there are plenty of others which work fine, just not sure of the odds of getting a pyro which is bad from day 1 and a boost guage which has problems 15 days later.

Read the first post, selling dealer was no help in the same week of making the sale. Will not post the name, I am just very interested if another Optix dealer would also have you send it back direct.

Anyone have a Quadzilla Commander guage yet? My truck is stock, I hear the commander does not need a power box like the Attitude.

EGT gauges. . are based on heat and expansion of two metals that generate a very small voltage... this voltage than moves a simple volt meter that has a temperature scale on it.....

Any... and I mean ANY loose or bad connection prevents the slight voltage from moving the meter and making any sense... ... that's why most of the connections from the end that inserts into the manifold and the connecting wire is bolted together... .

I'd bet that you have a poor or loose connection at one of these connections...

The second problem with this type of gauge is over tightening the bulb in the exhaust manifold and doing damage to it... . these are usually pipe threads and need some sealant on them to lube the fittings more than seal them.....

BTW - other than the two issues above... . I've never seen a problem with this style of gauge... other than physical mechanical damage to it..... or the meter... and soldering these connections is not recommended...

Hope this helps... .

I had a problem with my optix pyro doing wierd things also. Called Danin and they aked a few questions about trouble shooting what I had already done. They said it sounds like a gauge problem. They UPSed me one within a week. Replaced it and it worked fine.

Quite honestly, I thought Danin's customer service was Great! This is the second set of Danin DP gauges I have had and this is the first problem I have had with them. I would buy them again without much hesiation.

Just my experience and my 2 cents

The problem with your boost guage is that you need a snubber between the guage and the boost line. I had the same problem with my DiPricol guage and some one on this sight bailed me out, just returning the favor.

i had my egt gauge going nuts twice. both were human error. first time i have the power tapped to a constant power and not ignition. not sure why but it jumped to 800* after shutdown. second time (today) the gauge would read ok then stop then ok again. i have the lighting ground and the egt power ground spliced together and a test with the lights told me its a bad ground. i too have that noise under load but dont know why.

whats a snubber and where do i get one.

a snubber is a machined pipe fitting with a very small orifice in the center [~100micron]. usually male thread on one end, female threads on the other end

hardware store might have one. . you can use a needle valve as a snubber too if that is easier to get.

Mark,

Thanks for your help on this. I have ordered exhaust from you for my truck and your company has been very easy to work with.

The guage did not function correctly from day 1. It has been years that the selling dealer or merchant has not sent one out right away to replace a possible bad or defective unit. (In anything I have purchased). This may very well be the DiPricol policy, and that is fine. All I know is I purchased a boost guage, pyro, and pillar mount for $360. 00 on May 14th, and have yet to have these function correctly in my truck. The pyrometer has been at Dannin since the end of May, and I had to call them to find out the unit has been dropped or whatever. It could have been done my shipping department or UPS, I am not sure. One thing I am very interested in is why the warranty sticker was missing. I have no reason to remove it.

As for the guage not working, I believe it has something to do with the servo motor. The guage would always work fine for 30-45 minutes and then act up. I could turn the truck off, restart it, and the guage would work fine again for the same amount of time. I double and triple checked the wiring. I have installed about 10 sets of various brand guages over the years.

Thanks again Mark, but I think I will try something else now.

Have had similar issues here. My boost gauge rattled since new. Dealer took it back and replaced under warranty, but the new one rattles the same as the old one (if not worse... ) Danion/Dipricol said it is "normal" for the gauge mechanism to make noise... I would like to try the snubber thing as a last resort... .

I am also struggling to find a sqealing noise that is somehow related to the boost gauge. I replaced the entire plastic line and compresion fittings, but the "squeal" is still there anywhere above 20#. Any suggestions???

I'm pleased by my EGT, but twice in the few months Ive owned them I've noticed the gauge reading artificlly high. When I let the truck idle down it wont go below 500f. Turn off and back on and its right at 300f where it normally is. Weird, but so far not a big deal.

Chaw,

Don't know where you got them but that is the first and real issue, that seller should take care of you. Not the DI shouldn't, and ultimately will, but you gave your money to them not DiPricol. Unless there is a factory recall or something along those lines the actual seller is the responsible party to make sure their customer is happy etc. On second thought, maybe you should post who it is so no one else gets in this situation???? If the reseller had taken care of you most likely the damage to the gauge in shipping wouldn't have happened. I can also tell you this DiPricol is honest to a fault, so if they said it was damaged when they got it you can bet it was and they are not just trying to get out of having to deal with it etc.

Mark @ DPPI

What is DI's web site? Where are the gauges made? If you do a seach on DiPricol all you can find is resellers.

Having issues with my Optix pyro as well. Works fine for about 30 minutes. . Then is all over the map. . Sometimes over 200° off! Good thing I have a second Pyro!

Also, when I talk on my CB... Needle goes crazy. I called Dannin and they are working on the problem.

DiPricol

I purcased the older Dipricol EGT gauge (white dot center) which was supposed to be a match to the 2004 dash. It has never provided uniform light and is extreemely bright under the MFG name, yet dark in most other places. Yes I did check to verify that the LED is working. I contacted the company I purchased it from, they just put me off saying that is the way it is (guages aren't perfect).

I was looking for a new gauge when Dave Meheen (Diesel Power Products) directed my efforts to get in touch with Dipricol (Prab - owner) who told me he was going to fix this and kept putting me off for over 4 months - then Prab turned me over to his daughter Jenny who said I am going to sell you a new gage at dealer cost (what about what I spend on the original gauge)... . BS This was over a 5 month span.....

I wish Dave worked for DiPricol as he has excellent Customer Service but thumbs down to DiPricol... .....

Thanks again to Genos... ... ...
