I drained my oil before I realized that I had none to refill the crankcase with, so I had to wait for the wife's car to return.

A few hours after draining I wiped off the dipstick, inserted and pulled it out a number of times.

Everytime the dipstick came out the leading edge and the cable just above it had a significant amount of oil on it. These are the same areas that have led me to believe that my truck was "making oil". If the "safe" area of the stick had oil on it it would have read 1/2" over full.

If the cable is picking up oil in the diptube as it comes up it is always going to read overfull.

Any thoughts.

(I also weighed all the waste oil and compared new three gallons. The old oil weighed 97% of the new. )

This is something I had suspected after watching my level go both up and down day to day with 1,000kms put on the truck per day. I hadn't thought of a way to test it though and your way is so simple yet effective. Thanks for posting about it.

I did 2 oil changes. Both had more oil than I put in, and both were very watery. The one after 3000 miles had almost 14 litres in it. I only put in 12. Thats 2litres of diesel in the crank case!!

Since then, Ive deleted the EGR, and the DPF filters out of the exhaust. No more regen!! No more fuel getting past the rings during regen. On my last oil change after 5,000 miles, the oil was thicker and the dipstick NEVER goes above the middle of the safe zone.

Did you have the oil analyzed. If you have 15% fuel you have got problems.
