I was just wondered if anyone has used a temperature dipstick sensor like in the transmission to keep an eye on the trans temp?

I am considering using one until I can get the Mag Tech pan. And what is normal temps for the trans, not towing anything. .

Thanks

Dip stick senser

Well I have been using one for several months now. And it gives me a hell-uf-a-lot more information than I had before.

I attached it to the dip stick with shrink rap.

With outside temps below 50 degrees it runs at 140. At 80 outside it goes to 160. In a lot of stop and go traffic it will get to 175.

It will work very well until you get your aluminum pan.

Don't wait for pan.....

The transmission temp sensor should go in the line to the cooler not the pan. The pan temps already have cooled fluid mixed in. You can get a line for a 1995 (? I think) that has a built in port for the sender. Or you can cut in a tee.

Garret is ablsolutely correct. If you want to hear it from the horse's mouth, however, give Bill Kondolay a call. He'll tell you the same thing. Measureing in the pan is not an true reading of the temp inside the torque converter. I beleive the last year for the sensor in the line is a '98. BUT you will also want to replace that last bit of rubber line (that has the check valve) with a braided line (That Bill K. sells). It is a very good quality line (with ANSI fittings) and since the check ball is removed, there is no danger of it getting stuck and over heating your transmission. The only draw-back to this is that when it is really cold outside, you may have to let the transmission sit in N for a few seconds before taking off (to warm up the fluid a bit)

Good luck.
