J - I like to change out the TP in mine at 2 or 3 thousand miles, depending on how the truck has been used - it takes a quart of makeup oil to replace what the element absorbs.

Naturally, the larger the size of the element, the better your filtering SHOULD be - but placement of the filter gets to be more of a problem due to size - and changing the single element a bit more often if necessary isn't a big deal.

The case on mine as pictured, is plain stainless steel... The fitting shown by Wayne is a good deal - I want to eventually get one for mine, just haven't done it yet.

SORRY - I almost missed one question a ways back about oil pressure drop using the Frantz filter - none visible with mine - it is a BYPASS filter, which means the oil flow is greatly reduced by a restriction in the supply line to the filter - I made my own, since my installation kit didn't include one - some of these filters were used in applications where the restrictor wasn't used or needed - mine is restricted to 1/8 inch diameter - plenty of flow, and no observable reduction in oil guage readings, hot or cold, cruise or idle...

Gary looking at your install how does the oil drain off when your outlet end is higher than the drain connection? The bypass filter I am using requires a drain line lower than the outlet on the filter cannister. Also my bypass filter (www.puradyn.com) uses a tiny oriface that restricts oil flowing to the bypass filter to 6 gallons per hour. :D

Well Bill, here again, ya gotta SEE how these things work - the drain-back path for what little residual oil is involved is thru the SUPPLY line, which is LOWER than the filter - very little actual volume of oil in the outgoing line = guess I need to post a picture of the disassembled filter when I get a chance...

Folks tend to visualize this setup as a canister FULL of dirty oil - actually, almost ALL the canister is full of the TP cartridge - hardly any liquid oil at all, especially after it sits for a little bit... ;)

Yes - you still use the stock full-flow filter.

These are BYPASS filters - they simply take (bypass!) a SMALL flow of oil, pass it thru a very dense filtering material at low volume to filter down to FAR smaller contaminant sizes than the stock filter is capable of, then return the "super filtered" oil back into the crankcase - they don't REPLACE the stock filter, they SUPPLEMENT it.
