How long does it take for your truck to start

My 95 Ford E350 with a powerstoke has a code set because I added a chip to it. The code can only be cleared by replacing the ECM. I don't see anything wrong with Cummins, Dodoge, or anyone else trying to see if a truck was modified. If you chip it, than you are your own warranty station.

According to the law, It's a privledge to drive a vehicle on the streets not a RIGHT.

Everyones well being has to be taken into concideration, not just yours and mine, EVERYONES.

I try to live by this: My RIGHTS end where your RIGHTS begin. Or, your rights end where mine begin.

Warranty coverage for something one creates him or her self is FRAUD. The same as burning down your house to collect insurance money.

"A lot of guys want to act like big dawgs, but cower like a ***** cat when it breaks ... ... ... this "thievery" adds to the cost of all our next CTD trucks!"

dont let anyone fool you, the warranty costs due to "chipped" up vehicles is a drop in the bucket... .

your next vehicle will be more expensive than the last, regardless ...

the real thievery is the cost of the vehicles & denial of warranty coverage without just cause. or how about vehicles south of the border are listed $10-20k less than up here, but technically the dealers arent "allowed" to sell them to us.

i modded my truck the day it came home, i try for warrany on everything that breaks.

when i purchased it i asked for a discount if they would cross off the warranty, guess what they said?

so whos fraudulent now?

go preach on another soapbox, nobody cares. these forums were for the owners/by the owners.

My $$$'s should buy the whole truck

I assume we all understand that we did NOT purchase the computer software installed in our trucks and do NOT have legal right to modify it at all and stay within the warranty. If you're unsure of this, call your dealer and ask to see a copy of the paper you signed when you purchased the truck, new that is. I can't recall what it was called but was quickly explained as the ability to correct and fine tune the computers in the future. The need for a signature seemed a little strange at the time but with the pressure of the sale, etc. I didn't realise the importants of that signature, I'm not sure they can sell you a vehicle without it. Anyway, there was a legislative bill last session to allow the owner to have the vehicle serviced where ever they liked, seems weird at first but it included the software, huge turnaround for the owner and dealer. Of course it died a quiet death. Manufactures are going to fight this because if they have not engineered something that shows up failing while in service they can modify to REDUCE the risk of failure, aka reduced power. And believe me they will NOT give it back no matter what. Legislatively is the only way to get the manufacturer to stop dropping a complete warranty for an unrelated mod, that's always been my concern, and DC does not treat you fairly here. Contact your elected if you want to own your truck. just my rant

My standard answer "it is only illegal when you get caught" so drive like you stole it, do dome bumper drafting and bury them in black smoke so they can't read the plate number... as you speed away. I am glad we dont have diesel emssions in PA. (also we can carry a loaded pistol (w permit) and own assult weapons w/large cap mags and drive modded Dodge's). God bless the usa.

According to the law, It's a privledge to drive a vehicle on the streets not a RIGHT.

Well, the gov't seized the public dirt roads, that were every free man's (and woman's) RIGHT to travel at will.

They paved them over and banned non-motorized vehicles, and made it a PRIVLEDGE to use PUBLIC roads.

They in effect put under house arrest everyone who does not want, or cannot drive a motorized vehicle, unless you can find some public transportation, or hire, or beg to be taken somewhere. The interstate system paved over some public dirt roads, and in effect left some (like the Amish) without the freedom to travel.

Of course the argument is that WHO would want to use the horse carriage anymore, except perhaps during a traffic jam on the freeway?

Then there is the issue of giving driver's licenses to illegals. Is it their right to drive?

Maybe when it all goes somewhere in a handbasket and there is complete anarchy, it won't be so bad... We'll be free to do what we want, maybe we can rip the blacktop off those roads so they are public and free again.
I've always hated the fact that it is only a privledge to be driving, I paid for the truck, so I'm gonna drive it, the heck with them. Out here no one follows any traffic laws anyway, so why have them? I've about given up on expecting the police to do anything when it's actually needed, not because they won't, but because they can't. There aren't enough officers to do all the BS that their superiors have given them so that some rich people will get off his back. They whole political thing is a complete cluster**** everywhere at all levels. I have many friends that are officers at various places and even though they like the idea of their jobs, they still think it's all messed up and a pain in their... head. Most of them have also quit and moved on to other professions because of this. How are we supposed to get anybody decent to do a job that only the corrupt can tolerate?

Anyway, I'm gonna quit venting about the man. I only started the thread to tell everyone what cummins was asked to develop and figured I'd give everyone a little obvious heads up. Done

Perhaps I'm wrong, but unless it becomes illegal to modify your vehicle, wouldn't disabling the truck if a chip or other mod. was detected be illegal on the part of the dealer. At the moment of purchase the vehicle becomes mine to do with as I please. They (the dealer) can detect my modifications all they want and perhaps even void a warranty because of my modifications, however, I don't think they could cause my vehicle to stop functioning because of my modifications.

Just my thougts.

Kinda sorta, but not exactly.

1. Warranty Issues. There's absolutely no legal reason why a manufacturer can't take physical steps to prevent the use of unapproved equipment on a machine. Under the Magnusson-Moss Act, they are only prevented from requiring you to buy approved equipment from the company unless they provide it for free (i. e. lubricants. ) or can prove to the FTC that the machine will only work properly with OEM approved or manufactured parts or accessories. The only recourse they have other than that is to void the warranty, and only if the aftermarket device caused the failure.

2. Emissions. You can't do anything that affects emissions, because that would be breaking a federal law. Since these trucks operational parameters are specifically calibrated for emissions control (the hated 3rd event, for example) anything that you do to the engine programming COULD violate that, therefore, the manufacturer has taken steps to prevent defeat of emissions control systems. The manufacturer is well within his rights to prevent the user from circumventing the emissions control systems thru electronic means. You don't have to buy it, and there is little they can do, other than threat of voided warranties, to prevent someone from coming up with a workaround. That is, unless the fed gets heavy handed and requires the company report violated emissions control systems.
