I didn't read those directions but it's important to stress cleanliness and proper torquing procedure to ensure a good seal at the nut fittings. After putting the new injectors in and popping the tubes back in place, I begin to tighten the injector, then tighten the fuel line nut part way, then torque the injector down to spec, then the fuel line nut to spec. In other words go back and forth to make sure they seat together well. I'm more anal about it than many guys though.

Injector line torque

What kind of torque wrench do you use to properly tighten the injector line nuts? They would need a 19 mm open end wrench?

Well it may not be correct, but I have never used a torque wrench to torque down the injector line nuts. I have done about 10 injector installs and never had a problem. I was told by more than one diesel guru not to worry, the goodandtight standard is just fine.



If you must torque them down correctly you need a 19mm crowsfoot that will attach to your torque wrench. There is a correction factor when using the crowsfoot as it makes the wrench longer. No big deal you just have to factor it in. I also have no idea how in the world you would ever get a torque wrench on #6. Heck I have trouble getting a shorty end wrench on it.

Question for JR2

The service manual says to remove the grid heater if you're doing cylinder 1 or 2. Some guys that have done installations say you don't need to. Can it be done without removal of the grid heater?

i removed it. its not neccissary but its easy. yeah torques are good and tight. easy install...

Diesel Dynamics has great installation instructions too... plan on using them, along with other great tips provided by TDR members, when I install my EDM 1. 5s.

I didn't torque my injector lines when I put the 275's in. No leaks or problems. I've torqued a lot of things and tried to guesstimate as best I could, but I'm sure 10 lbs over isn't going to matter... as long as you're not crushing them. I was contemplating the crows foot adapter for when I do my EDM's but I'll probably be too lazy and just use Jon T's method... except it's my shoulder that pops instead of my elbow. I knew that plate and 9 screws in my shoulder was good for something.
