5th wheel hitch

A yard, 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft of concrete is about 4400 lbs as my memory serves me... I'm going to guess that a yard of dirt is around 3000 lbs give or take on the moisture content... .

Jim

Just called a couple frends of mine, a civil engineer and a CM major.

Here is the scoop

Concrete... ..... 145-150 pounds a cubic foot 3915-4,050 pounds a yard

Dirt, compacted..... 100-120 pounds a cubic foot 2700-3240 pounds a yard

Dirt, loose... . 80-100 pounds a cubic foot 2,160-2700 pounds a yard.

Anyway, if you are transporting topsoil, it will probably be on the light side, if you are transporting clay, it will be on the heavy side.

So, I had a disposal bin dropped off at my home to get rid of some dirt, when the truck comes to p. u. what is the max weight one of those disposal bin trucks can carry?

I figure I have approx 12-14 yards of dirt in bin.

12-14 yards will probably put the truck overweight.

Did you ask for a dirt dumpster, or did you just fill up a conventional refuse dumpster?

Hopefully the disposal company will pick it up, if it is overweight they may make you unload some of the dirt, and pay extra for a 2nd pickup. Waste Management offers a 6 yard dirt and concrete dumpster here in Livermore; with that size it is impossible to overload it.

Most of our roll off trucks have a tare weight around 28,000. Most can legally haul 51,000. Our company includes 3 tons with the cost of the box and charges 70 per ton over the inital 3. It gets pretty expensive when you get into the heavier boxes. I put about 15yds of dirt in a 20yd box (11 times) and they grossed out at about 66,500.
