Well I started to change my ball joints and once pulled my axle out, I noticed how dirty most the tube is all the way down to the seal is this normal and how can I clean it?



Second question is I looked down the tube and the part that the axle goes into looks like moved to the front whats the best way to recenter it?

Not sure if this link will work or not, you may have to copy and paste I found it very helpful when doing mine. It explains how to clean the tubes. If I remember correctly I shoved a rag through the tube with a piece of allthread after soaking with carb cleaner. This site may help with question 2 also. When I had the cad shift actuator off and the intermediate axle out, there was a needle bearing that was trashed. It was at the edge of the cad housing on the differential side, you may want to check that while you have it apart.

A 3' length of 5/16" redi-rod with a fender washer pinched between two nuts at the end works very well. Hold it up when you slide it in, then drop when you get to the seal and pull towards you. Will drag most of the junk out without damaging the seal.



If you are looking in the right hand side with the axle out, you might be seeing the shift collar for the axle disconnect which may have moved a little when you pulled the axle out.



If that is the case do as mentioned above and check that bearing. Worth a look, only going to cost you a new gasket for the shift acutator if nothing is wrong in there.

Helpful hint, put it in 4x4 before pulling the right axle out. The collar stays on the inner axle and the outer goes in easy.
