Dirty Oil

I know this has been discussed before but I cannot find any reference to this question anywhere in TDR anymore.



I have a 2004. 5 3500 and my cousin has an earlier 2004 3500. He is always bragging about how clean his oil is, and mine has been black since brand new. I know the 2004. 5 engine had some changes, but I can't find any reference that specifically states why the newer 2004. 5 engine has much more soot in the oil compared to the earlier model.



Can anyone explain this or provide a reference?... . Thanks

Have you actually seen his oil?

How clean it actually is vs. how clean he says it is are 2 different things.

Does he have an oil bypass filter system on it?

Could be. The oil in my signature truck is still clean after 18K miles.

Didn't they put egr on all 2004. 5 and later models?

The oil in the 03-04SO engines will stay clean, not turn black for a long time. The 04. 5-07 have internal EGR.
